Well, if you have an application crash due to a power down on a storm, your whole project will be fu**ed if you didn't save. I guess that's a bit more severe than not being able to start Steam in offline mode the next time... sure you're not looking for a needle in a haystack?

Well, not here to evangelize or convince you. I just want to say that the things you criticize are trivial. If you want to criticize those, you can criticize them on any other software too. Some progs get completely messed up when they crash, or the power goes down.

How can Steam see it has an update if you are truly offline?
I use Steam in offline mode often and with no troubles.. even with a flaky game that DOES crash to desktop occasionally.. never a problem with the Steam client itself.
The medicine side effects listings is a list of every single condition the study group(s) experienced at the time they were taking the medication during the study.. even if it wasn't related to the medication.. simply to mitigate lawsuits.
Steam is a cloud repository of software. Cakewalk has never claimed you will ever require it to use their software. They are only considering for download purposes. Which, if you were downloading from their site, have an internet connection anyways. If you are thinking you will need to install Steam for Cakewalk software if you already have a DVD installer, then don't.. the Steam client is just another means to get the software in this case. There is no panic here!
Some of you seem to be making a mountain out of a mole hill...

It can't. You have to be online for that of course.VitaminD wrote:How can Steam see it has an update if you are truly offline?

Peanut Gallery Comment: What did I miss here?
I thought the guy from Cakewalk said nobody has to use Steam with Sonar (whatever it is, I actually had never even heard of it), that they can just buy a box from a store and install and use the software like they do now?
Is this kinda like the iLok thing where people argue about how bad iLok is when the guy buying a certain plugin that the thread is about has already said ...
"Erhm... but you don't actually have to activate it on iLok... you can also activate it via C/R."

I don't get it too. Probably because z3ta is on Steam now means for some people that Sonar will be on Steam now too. What i also don't get is the general hysteria regarding unknown things. And even if you try to explain that it's no problem at all, someone will find a tiny thing and ride on it to provide himself with reasons why the whole mechanism sucks. Sort of a technologyphobia.

this is what I was trying to clear up. It wasn't 100 percent clear.LawrenceF wrote:Peanut Gallery Comment: What did I miss here?

can we buy the box or download and use it and install it like we did before?
Is STEAM an OPTION or a REQUIREMENT

According to what the man from Cakewalk posted 3 pages ago, yes!memyselfandus wrote: this is what I was trying to clear up. It wasn't 100 percent clear.

That's why I asked... "What did I miss?" ...
If it's not even on the thing, whatever it is, what are people worried about?
Because I can be rather slow at times.SONAR isn't even on Steam.

I challenge Cakewalk to fix the U-He text bug for once in X3. We've been waiting literally for years on that one...long enough to make me switch to Cubase.

Power outage was one of the examples i gave, and is just one that he chose to run with. I see no mention of ISP problems, or hotel wifi, or just plain process crashes. Also, never responded to how much time has been spent in offline mode.
Things that you consider trivial, arent to me. Just like the 'features' of steam that you may like, are trivial (if not a negative) to me. Auto updates? I havent used auto update on anything since the 90's. News about products? Sales? All trivial. I dont need extra software for that stuff, i have a web browser.
Different folks, different strokes.
As far as physical discs go... if its like anything else Steam-Mandatory, buying a physical disc means squat. You get half a product on the disc and need to dl a few gb of data from steam to create a complete product. IIRC, some games didnt come with a disc in the box, it was just a cd case with a serial number and web address to dl steam client.
Google 'i bought the physical disc so i wouldn't have to download from steam' and youll find lots of angry users asking why they bothered to get a disc if they had to dl a ton of crap anyway.

But they've never claimed Steam-Mandatory.. so I don't know what/why you are arguing..
