No.

And of course you're entitled to use whatever you like. I just wonder if you ever updated your Windows, when you're so declined to these methods.

Ok, one more attempt to clearly explain:

The registration and authorization scheme for SONAR will not change for the current version or next version. You can buy SONAR at a dealer or buy a download from Cakewalk and NOTHING at all will change regarding our system. You will not need to go to Steam to authorize ANYTHING. You don't need Steam on your computer.

For products like Z3TA+ 2, the same holds true. You can go to a store and buy it on DVD. You can download it from the Cakewalk site. The registration and authorization process is the same. It hasn't changed and will not change. Again, you don't need Steam on your computer to authorize ANYTHING.

Now, if you are a Steam customer and love their ecosystem (and there are millions and millions of customers who do), then you can also buy Z3TA+ 2 from their store and use their system. Some people prefer that and I have to say that Steam is pretty cool (personal opinion).

So in summary, if you like Cakewalk's current registration and authorization system and prefer to buy software via DVD or digital download, that option is available and will be available for future products. You won't need Steam or a dongle or any other type of DRM device. That's always something we've been good about.

So basically stop worrying. You are discussing an issue that is a non-issue. Let people who love Steam buy products on their store and be happy. And you can buy products the way you want to buy them. Everybody wins.

I hope this is clear.

What do you mean No? Did you google what is right after the quote? Are all those people lying?

I update manually, when the time is convenient for me, if i want the update. For example, didnt someone recently run into the MS update loop here on kvr? Believe it or not, even MS has released borked updates that needed to be fixed. Ill skip those.

On every machine i have that runs XP x86, i dont have SP3. Its a silly update. Everything up until SP3, and everything after SP3, i can deal with. I just change dword:00000200 to 00000300 :)

But i dont get why you question my windows update habits. Buying windows retail disc, you get an OS that you can work with. Buying a Steam-mandatory disc is getting half the data, that you cant access until you download the remainder of it. I have Win discs, theyre the whole product. I have Counterstrike CS disc here, its not the whole game, its half of it, and the other half is on their server.

Edit: If youd still like to discuss steam, start a thread in off topic, and id be happy to continue.

Well, what do you mean you get half a product on the CD/DVD? It is the full product, and you maybe get patches over Steam. The size of those patches depend on the software, and on the way they patch it. But maybe i don't get your point.

Good luck with that. You'd probably have more luck asking a bear to use a porta-john. :hihi:

It's... pretty normal. PreSonus just bought Notion and some users are consumed with bad (worst case) scenarios.

I think I'm just going to start posting X3 features and pictures on this page to get this thread back on topic :)

YES!!! PLEASE!!!

Now we're talking! You can start by (re)telling us about those included 3'rd party plugins... :D

@chk071: I think xNiMiNx suggestion of taking the steam discussion to off topic is a good one.

Please do. It will be very helpful. I visit this thread with the expectation to see new features, pics, etc. but disappointed to see OT discussion.

@ beltrom: Yeah, you're right. :) Nonetheless i think it is a worthy discussion though, as i'm interested also if the audio app market takes a road in Steam's direction. Back to Sonar. :D

What about let cakewalk users choose Steam DRM over yours??? (I dont own Sonar, so I dont know your DRM, but I can live with steam one, not very happy, but unlike other DAWs/stuff/games I still buy from them)

Anyone saw this? Goodbye Roland, hello Gibson! Or Tascam...

No wonder there was such a lack of updates....
