I sincerely hope not. Gibson already buried Opcode, it would be a shame if Cakewalk would join.

What I don't understand is the Teac/Tascam role in this arrangement. Is Teac in the Gibson group?

So basically stop worrying. You are discussing an issue that is a non-issue. Let people who love Steam buy products on their store and be happy. And you can buy products the way you want to buy them. Everybody wins.

I hope this is clear.
What about let cakewalk users choose Steam DRM over yours??? (I dont own Sonar, so I dont know your DRM, but I can live with steam one, not very happy, but unlike other DAWs/stuff/games I still buy from them)
why the hell would you want steam DRM over cakewalk? sonar activation is a simple serial number and activation code, all offline.

Seems like Roland had enough of buggy cakewalk thingys. There was a blowout at musicstore cologne of the V700R Studio interface for just 399 Euros, which was normally way more than 1000 bucks. I was a little bit tempted because of that built in Fantom VS :hihi:

Anyway are we getting Cakewalk interfaces powered by Tascam?

Don't know. It is too much going on at cake's side to decide something for my studio.

I doubt there's many companies in this business which are doing well, so it's not that much a question of buggy products.

Roland never had a strategy for Cakewalk. It wasn't integrated, there were no synergies, no technologies shared - nothing at all. Just an erratic pursuit of something I could never devise or understand.

Anyone notice Craig Anderton's name as the representative of Gibson on the press release? He has a title of Executive VP at Gibson (since February of this year), though I'm not sure how much sway that title comes with. That said, as he's written quite a bit about and for Cakewalk products, it's likely he had some input into the acquisition. Hopefully, he'll have some control over product going forward.

Apparently Gibson made a large investment in TEAC/Tascam a few months back:

So, Teac/Tascam, and now Cakewalk. And the presence of Craig Anderton as guest star. Seems like the plot is well written, Let's see who will be directing the movie. But I keep remembering what happened to Oberheim and Opcode.

As a happy Sonar X2 user...I would be thrilled to have Tascam come on board. I can't see a negative.

In that case it is much better, like I said I dont know which DRM they had, but I was convinced it as some complicated form of DRM.

Glad it isnt.

You are too young, apparently. I saw this movie before, and it had no happy ending.

So you don't know what Tascam did to Gigastudio?

They'll trot him out for pseudo-credibility when they need him, otherwise he's another empty suit.
