Load up FXpansion's BFD 3 virtual drum software, and it's as if you're standing inside an incredible-sounding room with every must-have drum component at your fingertips. This third-generation library gives you a huge array of sounds and presets, and an updated browser design makes working inside BFD 3 easier and faster than ever. BFD 3 gives you seven new kits (recorded in two locations), and its dedicated rock, metal, jazz, and brush kits provide the sounds you need to fit any project - regardless of genre. Want to make killer grooves? You're in luck. An improved groove engine and a groove-building rudiments tool make putting together great grooves with FXpansion BFD 3 a snap.

FXpansion BFD 3 Virtual Drum Software at a Glance:
More sounds but less disk space required, and easier to navigate too
Build your drum parts without switching between software programs
More realistic drum sounds with tom resonance and cymbal swell modeling

More sounds but less disk space required, and easier to navigate too
While BFD 3 packs more incredibly detailed drum sounds than its predecessors, new data compression methods means the BFD 3 library doesn't take up any more space than previous versions. There are many mix-ready presets ready for instant use in your projects, and the updated interface is so intuitive you won't have any problems creating your own custom kits too.

Build your drum parts without switching between software programs
The built-in groove construction tools in FXpansion BFD 3 let you create grooves without switching between BFD 3 and your sequencer. And with pre-played grooves by world-class drummers like Steve Ferrone, Brooks Wackerman, Peter Erskine, and more, you'll have no shortage of inspiring drum parts to work into your projects at any time.

More realistic drum sounds with tom resonance and cymbal swell modeling
BFD 3 from FXpansion sounds more realistic than ever thanks to new modeling technology. With control over tom resonance and cymbal swells you can create drum arrangements with more organic, lifelike character than ever before.

this looks a lot like Tremor would've looked like if it were acoustic drum software. not sure i follow the interface, but i'll have to see it in action. and i'll have to, there's no question about it :-D

they must've finally implemented some form of compression! yay! not that i don't like the way things are now, but even if it's disk-only compression (i.e. unpack in memory), it'll still make for faster loading times, which is always nice.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

They started a move to that when making some of the formerly disk-only expansions downloadable, I believe.

Interesting. Hope I'll be able to upgrade from Eco 2.

You can go here to see a larger version of the interface.

i hope it's resizeable, because it's HUGE. but other than that, seems cleanly laid out.

if by compression you mean having 20-bit sounds (instead of 24-bit on disks) then yes, but this isn't quite what we understand by compression :-) they still eat huge amounts of HDD space compared to what superior drummer has.

Thanks for the updates. Looks interesting.

My mistake, I'd misremembered; you're right, its not compression, they're actually reducing the bit-depth.

We did that as a trial, for one or two packs - notably the BFD2 download version.

We're not doing that with BFD3.

*says no more*

i wonder what was wrong with having 20-bit sounds (apart from some people whining about something they can't hear anyway)... i bet if BFD3 had compressed 20-bit sounds it'll take up even less disk space! :-D

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. 20-bit provides enough headroom for drums, in fact the difference in headroom between 20-bit and 24-bit is miniscule. When we did our 20-bit pack, it allowed us to reduce the noise floor too.

But hey... people like numbers. They like big ones. The ones at the top of the ladder. Makes them feel like they've got "the best" ! :help:

October 7 is the supposed release date.

Interesting. According to the newsletter from IMSTA FESTA, BFD3 should be released there, and that's on the 28th of sept.

I guess we'll know in 2 days.

October 7 is supposedly when stores will have a physical copy of it. So we'll see. Also I never said October 7 is the definite date, I said supposedly.
