Isn't it possible to order at Thomann from the UK?

I'm off them.
The 2 hardware items I bought from them (on separate occasions) were faulty and I had to chase them 3 months after returning one of them to get my £500 back. And I had to pay the return shipping both times, so I ended up out of pocket.
With every purchase I've made(I bought software from them a few times)it took them 5-6 days to dispatch items that were in stock.

If I get sent another defective unit the return shipping will be more than the difference I'd pay to buy the unit from Uk in the first place.

Other people say Thomann are great but that's not been my experience.

Could you ask whether the Pulse 2 *exactly* reproduces Pulse 1 patches when in P1 legacy mode? If it's a close approximation, could you find out what the differences between the revisions are - filter, env speed/resolution?
Here is what i already posted concerning what i found in the manual:
Ingonator wrote: Just had a look at the "P1 legacy mode" of the Pulse 2. Based on the manual that mode activates the controller assignment of the former Pulse 1 model.

Also found this in the manual (Appendix at page 58 ):
"If you want a more aggressive sound, simply turn up the oscillator volume levels so that they are just below the saturation point. The mixer's output
signal will crosstalk with the filter frequency and produce a rougher sound."

also from the manual:
"You can achieve typical analog synthesizer distortion by overloading the connected mixing console's input. You can also experiment by patching
effects processors between the Pulse 2 and your mixer."
Still checking that out but personally i find it more simple to use the Drive to get a more distorted sound...

Yep, I saw that bit Ingo. :)

Doesn't answer the question of whether the P1 legacy mode yields an exact 1:1 reproduction of Pulse 1 sound and behaviour or just an approximation of it.

Nothing mnetioned about a change of the sound when using legacy mode...

That's hardly conclusive, either way.

If you could just ask the following at the beta forum:

"Does P1 legacy mode result in exact replication of the sound of Pulse1 patches or an approximation? If the latter, what's changed between Pulse 1 and 2? Filter? Envelopes? Something else?"

It's bad news for anyone who was expecting the distinctive Pulse 1 sound.

Not really. This new pulse sounds amazing and has much better features. Looking forward to trying it.

Well, let's reserve judgment until the two can be evaluated side-by-side. Ingo, while a fine programmer himself, is certainly putting his own spin on these patches and there might not be such big differences once Pulse 1 patches have been imported into a Pulse 2.
I think people have made their mind up already.

Just tried to load the Rob Papen Pulse 1 bank which is available here into my Pulse 2:

http://www.waldorf-music.info/en/archiv ... ounds.html

Loading seemed to be successful. Patches are loaded to locations P001 to P040.
As the Pulse 1 had no patch names the names appear as "Pulse 001" to "Pulse 040".
Anyway the names are written in the text file that is included with the download.

would be nice if someone could post a demo for one or a few of those patches using a Pulse 1.

It would also be possible that someone posts the parameter values for a Pulse 1 patch that he wants to have compared (including an audio demo maybe) and i'll try to enter those values into the Pulse 2 and see how it sounds there.

Sounds like a pretty decent synth to me.

Point me to the 'amazing' sounds. Seriously, I'd be interested to hear them. :)

However, aside from the paraphonic stuff, I haven't heard it do anything that couldn't have been done with *a leading software synthesizer

And so the analogue vs digital debate is born again! lol ;)

Does the pulse 2 have the '2D' flat digital sound? Shit. I am not getting one now.

Thanks for feedback. Some place in uk should price match.

Even if someone does this. They may use a mixer/direct in. Cables could add noise etc... Too many variables unless someone has pulse 1 and 2.

Personally, I will take the Pulse 2 as it is. If I get the same WOW as I do from the tetra and the Slim Phatty then that's good enough for me. :)

At least i found i could load those Pulse 1 banks.

Maybe at some point i will create a Pulse 2 syeex file with all those free Pulse 1 banks and the correct patch names that are included with the text files for some of them.

Will try to create some audio demos from that free Rob Papen Pulse 1 bank. Some very nice sounds there. Maybe someone could then post the same sounds from the Pulse 1.

Nope. Like I say, it sounds pretty good to me. But so does software. :)

I'm ready to be persuaded otherwise - point me to a demo that sounds amazing to you.

Just tried checking the other banks besides the Rob Papen bank which seems to be nice.

Paul Nagle provided two free Pulse 1 banks. I had problems using the MIDI files provided in that zip file, they crashed MIDIBar while loading them. The Sysex file called Pulsepl.SYX and PUNPULSE.SYX seem to work nicely (transferred with SendSX).
One of those has to be unzipped from another ZIP file in the first ZIP.

Some great sounds in those banks. will do some demos with the Pulse 2 as soon as i find time.
