I think that is a very cool, capable and well thought out instrument. It's just too expensive.trimph1 wrote:mmmmm...I seem to recall something along that line but there was this....

OK, for those that still believe in Santa, here is a story told in almost first person regarding the facts behind the (probably unknown to the vast mojority) story of the Oberheim OB-Mx. The OB-Mx was one of the biggest projects runned by Oberheim while owned by Gibson, and it was a complete disaster. In total despair, Buchla was called to save the project. He came on board, together with his old friend D N "Linx" Crowe, and they managed to create a unit that not only worked but was great. Gibson manage to screw them, and in the end the whole project sunk. Read the sordid details behind. This story very much "illustrates" Gibson way of doing business. Maybe this will help understand the fears some of us expressed regarding this deal:whyterabbyt wrote:At what point did that become my purview to provide?aMUSEd wrote:Is there anything they have done in the last half-decade that would help restore confidence in their ability to sustain interest in a software product of Sonar's standing?whyterabbyt wrote:Could you maybe provide some vaguely recent clues? Uh, Really. Youre seriously trying to claim that my asking for something more current than was originally used for a prediction means I'm obligated to supply evidence to prove the opposite of that prediction, are you?TheoM wrote:Since you asked for examples of the opposite!whyterabbyt wrote:

Even though you don't know why I asked, what my opinions are on the matter, or whether I support the notion you want me to validate. Even though 'the opposite' has absolutely nothing to do with the original question. Even though I neither discounted the statements made, or the proposition I was asking about, nor offered an alternative viewpoint in argument.
Piss off with that shite, Theo. Neither you nor Stephen actually have a horse in this race, as neither of you actively use the bloody software, but I still do, so I'd like information more information on something that affects me, but has f**k-all relevance to either of you. You're trying to tell me what and how I can ask about something that affects me, when it has no f**king relevance to either of you? That I can't ask about a situation that affects me unless I start by 'proving'' something utterly f**king unrelated I don't care about to people who -aren't- affected? Gfy.

The only company getting rich off this pre-availability announcement is Steinberg/Yamaha.

Ironically, it was while trying to get my Yamaha 5AI dongle re-authorized and buy an upgrade that I finally got tired of being ignored and wound up buying Sonar. I don't have any predictions here, but I do have a personal feeling of an impending demise. So I'm back on the trail of looking for another replacement, just in case.burkek wrote:The only company getting rich off this pre-availability announcement is Steinberg/Yamaha.
