Cynical?

I'm quite sure that he isn't a coder but the idea could be from him, and why shouldn't the Cableguys team up with him? It's an advantage for both sides...
I don't even see the Cableguys logo on it...

It's just a tool. Honestly I would have preferred.

Jesus Christ + Cableguys give us Hell Ducker.

It's just a name, if you like the tool then use it. If not, don't.
If you buy it because it has Nicky's name, well that's the type of person you are. No big, I know plenty of people who buy brand names. Ultimately, the consumer is responsible for their purchases.

Cableguys got to make a living. Bills to pay, gotta eat, and whatever....
Ethics is defined by society, f**k these judgments...They aren't hurting anyone with plugins.

I'll take your money...But I won't kill you for it...Well maybe...

I'll kill you over crude oil...That seems more acceptable.

I'm a lousy son of a bitch....

I know all about oil, but I'm not going to stop driving my car or stop using any products that come from it.

Hows that for you? So whats the big fucken deal about this plugin?

I remember Audio Damage Chris talking about Ronin and that it could do all what Dubstation could and so much more - but Dubstation became the big seller. I'm all for niched one-trick ponies. Good job Cableguys - and as already been mentioned - five minutes after eying Kickstart I stared looking at VolumeShaper :hihi:

Deleted also. :hihi:

Just looked at the Kickstart homepage, and I must admit, I'm a split soul...

While - being a freelance journalist and hobby-copywriter - I LOVE all these marketing terms about "instant sidechaining" and about how great Nicky Romero were...

...on the other side, I HATE it because it's not true and the whole website looks a bit like the Crysonics homepage.

Sidechaining is a completely different thing than using this plugin on a track. It's a MIDI triggered volume envelope plugin which can create ducking effects.

But for real sidechaining there had to be a sidechain input where you can "feed" another track into Kickstarter. Applying a volume LFO like Kickstarter isn't sidechaining! :?

Quote from the Kickstarter site: "Forget complicated compressor routings, simply drop Kickstart on your channels—a big Mix control and hand-crafted modulation curves get you started."

Seriously? :-o

Exactly. I didn't know what is this Volume Shaper about, but now I know....

If we are talking about the end result, then it will be the same. In fact, volume shaper is more precise and easier to use.

The question is, will you buy it? :D

Couldn't afford Jordan Ru... ? Oops did I say that?

Seriously though Cableguys are great, but it seems to me that midishaper does everything the other fx plugs do and more.

So how do you feed your kick track into Kickstart to duck the bass track?

The only thing you could do is to use the inversed waveform (of Kickstarter on the kick track) on the bass track...

It's simple gain-riding but not sidechaining.

Midi based volume LFO shaping gives you the sound of sidechaining but it's quicker to set up, and doubtlessly less CPU intensive. Sidechaining proper can be more nuanced and do more stuff, but I tend to get confused when I have a lot of subtle sidechaining going on, especially in combination with group tracks and complex routing. Sidechaining will always be relative and will respond to tweaks in other parts of the mix - Volume LFO is absolute and easier to understand/control when you're doing a complex mix. Sometimes I just want to be able to duck a track on command, so I can imagine Kickstart being useful to many people considering how cheap it is.

Wish the Nicky logo wasn't so big and prominent, that was the main thing putting my off from buying it.

Didn't Steve Duda already deliver this secret weapon in the form of LFOTool? Or does this do something more/better?

No doubt that it's useful, and I'm a proud user of VolumeShaper 3 BUT

Gainriding a single track (with an MIDI triggered volume LFO) isn't sidechaining!

So the term "instant sidechain compression" on the Kickstart website is misleading!

(And the eulogies for Nicky Romero are a bit overstated, too...)
