Unfortunately, there are some who expect a 1.0 or 2.0 to do everything or it's a "fail" Read back to the 1.0 release of anything... where there was very little logical perspective. Reaper went through it, S1 went through it, Bitwig will go through it as well.
What it was designed to do I expect it to do well but there will certainly be lots of talk about whatever it can't do yet.

I don't agree that not doing the things proposed for v2.0 is a fail, but the excessively long development time does make me think that Bitwig is not going to be able to pull ahead of its established competitors in terms of features.LawrenceF wrote:Unfortunately, there are some who expect a 1.0 or 2.0 to do everything or it's a "fail" Read back to the 1.0 release of anything... where there was very little logical perspective. The problem with entering an established market is that you really need to knock one out of the park or you will struggle to gain market share and maintain it.

Good point.TheoM wrote:Maybe just maybe the super long development time has allowed them to not only match every current modern daw feature but even leapfrog them.. Wouldn't that shock everyone.

But they're doing exactly the right thing. With a 1.0 DAW you kinda have to directly "hit" the most obvious holes of the established players. Otherwise nobody would buy it.
Reaper did it with routing and licensing and flexibility ( attractive),, S1 did it with workflow and ease of use (attractive) and Bitwig seems to be hitting Live's holes (pdc, dual monitors, etc,, etc). Of course, it's been so long that Ableton has closed some of those holes already,
But they certainky have the right idea.
OTOH, a product like Ardour isn't really directly hitting PT's holes, it's more just making another PT.

Puma. They used to be top quality.
They still look good though.
I use mostly Reaper and Live Session as a creativity tool. I can't think of a good reason to get BW ATM.
There are enough GAS musicians out there and exhausted Live users that they still have a good chance to support their venture regardless of being a game change (I doubt it very much from what I saw) or not.
Of course, IMHO.

I was hoping The Wig would come out before Live 9 so I could make a choice. That moment has passed. Not sure I'll be in the market now if/when this DAW ever sees the light of day.Biscotto wrote:Puma. They used to be top quality.

Many have done so and they have good reason for.
I don't like to wait for some feature I need, forever...
Maybe when we are going for Live 10 we can reconsider. After all it's only v1 anyway. A lot to see and compare and test.
I have very little time.
