One idea would be to switch the feedback lines so the labels are on top and invert this line just as the bottom line is inverted. That makes the screen symetrical again which is usually easier on the eyes. Not sure how that would work out in real life though.

Nice job drawing these by the way! :)
Like this? :)

You're right, it would indeed look better and more symmetrical (sorta - because there's 2 lines on top and one on the bottom).

Thanks. It's no big deal, playing around with some pixels :)

Maybe just the top line inverted? Or would that make the actual values less readable?

You decide :D

I'm undecided on this one.

The symetry on the last one definately looks better. I was worried the lack of a divider between the patch number and the row values would make them less readable but since the patch number characters are much larger this doesn't seem to be an issue.

Man, I really hope Waldorf will implement one of these last two solutions.

This has my vote but I will probably never own a Pulse 2 so I don't know if I am an eligible voter. I do have a Pulse +, however.

Here are my suggestions for 3- or 4-letter abbreviations for parameters on all pages:

Code: Select all

OSC1/2: SHP PW SEMI DET KEY LVL
OSC3: SHP RTNG SEMI DET KEY LVL
LFO/GL: SP1 SHP SP2 DLY GLD MODE
ENVF/E: ATK DEC SUS REL LOOP TRIG
ARP: ACT RNG TMP CLK PTRN MODE
VCF: CUT RES ENVF TYPE KEY VEL
VCA: DRV CURV PAN NOI VOL VEL
Everything aligns nicely!

Wait a bit, I'm still calculating pixels here! :D Seems like it's possible to have 6 parameters with 4 characters each, with 2 px spacing between every one of them.

I'll mock up how all 6 rows would look like with this layout - gimme a few minutes :)

Lol...I was actually joking but ok....let's see what comes out. Also....looks like EvilDragon is cooking on even more screen feedback juicyness. :)

Here's how would all 6 lines be laid out finally:

Image

So, up to 4 chars per parameter, 2 px separation between them. Luckily, not all 6 params are 4 chars always so it breathes more, most of the time.

Now, some parameter values WILL need abbreviation to 4 chars for this kind of display. Let's see:

OSC SHAPES:

PWM
SQR
SAW
TRI
APW
UNM
UNP
UAM
UAP
PAR8
PAR4
X3PW
X1PW
EXT
FB

OSC 3 ROUTING:

MIX
LVL2
VCF
DRV

GLIDE MODE:

NORM
FNGR
FNON
FNOF

Other parameters that have values as words seem to fit to 4 chars tops, so that's good.

Should I do an animated GIF with the example of settings for each line and how it would look from the main view as you change the rows in the matrix? :)

As cool as it would be to be able to see the actual result, you've done quite a lot already and before Waldorf confirms that this will ever be implemented it might be time wasted.

If you want to do it I'm not stopping you. It's your timehowever and maybe you are investing in something that we will never see realised......

I'm lazing today anyways, so why not do something nice. :D

But yes, I'd definitely like to know if Waldorf likes these screenshots :)

Personally I feel this is a perfect solution to one of the only flaws I can think of from the editting from the front panel perspective.

Another feature I would like them to implement (a feature that was available in the original Pulse) is the buffer dump sysex command. This enables 3rd party editors like the TB Stuff (iPad) and Max/M4L initiative to request the current parameter values on the synth thus enabling the editor to sync it's parameter values with the values of the synth.

I'm sure Waldorf has all sorts of fixes planned for stuff we aren't even aware of and this kind of support is great too. :)

Here we go!

Yeah, I'm a bit mad. :P

Ingo, how does this completely random patch sound, using values I threw in this GIF (as you can see I'm going through osc 1-3 and showing both envelopes in the GIF :D)? ;)

By the way, acidfever - what should happen when one actually moves a knob with this composite display? Should the preset name line change showing full name of the parameter and value? What would happen to the feedback row on top - would it stay there, would it hide?
