I believe if you bought Sonar Sep 1st or after you get a free upgrade. $149 otherwise. I'll see if I can find a link.

Eh, they sold me on VST integration about three times and failed to actually integrate it. Not buying it this time.
What do you mean? :?

is sonar x2 still using a vst 2 wrapper.. the legacy fxpansion thing? I thought they claimed they went fully native vst back n 8?
That is what I thought as well. I can't cite anything now because I'm on this dang phone but there should be something about the wrapper issue somewhere on CW. :?

It did. It hasn't been a wrapper for a long time but people keep saying that.

cmiiw but isn't notation just a different way of displaying PRV (midi) data?

yeah but isn't the underlying data the same?

Some of it will map in either direction (eg notes, note lengths etc) but other stuff doesnt (eg key signatures, articulations) so probably not the same.

I must admit the confusion probably comes from keeping that strange Vst config utility. I still can't believe apparently some things need to be marked as a tempo based effect?? Anyway thanks for the info :tu:
I think they went native around version 5 or so. The thing you mention is that in order to send midi to an audio effect, like a vocoder, for example, you had to mark it as a synth. It wasn't any problem, other than it then went to the instruments menu, which can be customized anyway. Tempo based effects, like delays and such, are handled as usual.

Well, a proper notation program also needs to deal with the creation of actual sheet music, formatting and printing, extraction of parts and such things. It can get pretty complicated.

A far as i'm concerned, it still behaves like a wrapper. Sonar registers the VSTs into the Registry like it does with DX plugs, and it uses the file name, rather than the VST ID, to differentiate them. This leads to lots of problems with plugin upgrades, file name changes, and "missing plugin" problems. i've ranted about this extensively on KVR and on the Cakewalk forum in past, so i'll spare everyone this time.
