Copying Phrase Variation Settings

Is it possible to copy a Phrase Variation setting from one phrase to another? If I have made extensive variation settings at one phrase it's a bit annoying to enter the same thing again at other phrases. Maybe it is possible to copy the settings, but I haven't figured it out. I know, I can enter variation settings for a whole track, but that's not exactly what I need.

As far as I know, no.... but, Attila is working on a "last used" setting option for the Generators... if he could do it for the variations, too that would be great.
At the very least, one should be able to copy variations from one phrase to another. There's that part of the "options" window (for each phrase) where you put your variations in... so there should be a "copy variations" button in that window... definitely. Seems like it might be easy to implement.
Attila's been working very hard on the new version of RC... Melody Generator, Manual Rhythm and Idea Tool are are being tweaked as there are some problems with the algorithms, but... all should be fixed soon.

I would prefer drag and drop. Select the desired variation "modules" (with their settings) from the list in the variations window of one phrase and drag them to another phrase.there should be a "copy variations" button in that window
It would also be cool if you could set the variations for multiple phrases at the same time.Select some phrases and set their variations together. I have tried that but it doesn't work. It changes the settings only for one of the selected phrases.
But coolest of course would be, if the stability issues could be improved. Five chrashes per hour are just too much.

Which version are you on? Believe me, Version 2.3 is far more stable. We have been working on tweaking various things and working out a ton of bugs, in VST mode and in standalone.
Can you let us know what you are doing exactly to make it crash? A screencast or video would be greatly helpful.
Thanks!

Sorry, it crashes in too many situations to report everything. Midi import...crash, changing output port ...crash, clicking outside of an input window...crash, re-opening crashed software...crash. I don't have the impression that the stability has improved in the last two years. The opposite is true, I even think that the last 1.x version was more stable. That's a pity, since although I have a couple of other composition progams (such as Synfire Pro, OnyxArranger, Pizzicato Pro, Symbolic Composer, PWGL, Octava Composer, Capella tonica fugata) I see some potential to integrate also Rapid Composer into my workflow. But in its current state it is impossible to use this software productively.

Ok, this is helpful. What system are you using? OS/etc?
I have not had RC crash on me AT ALL since version 2.3. And I had the same opinion as you. That's why it took me so long to get the tutorials done. I couldn't do anything without it crashing. The more it did, the more I reported it to Attila, and he got nearly everything worked out.
Again, I'm sorry you're experiencing so much crashing. I will report to Attila and we will see what we can do.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi J.F.K.!
Which version are you using on which OS? I will send you the latest version because I know some of the issues you mentioned were fixed recently. If you are a customer please send me your name/e-mail address, if not, I'll build the latest demo version. Please let me know: info at musicdevelopments.com
Thanks,
Attila

I'm on V2.21. Windows 8. I think that's the latest official release, isn't it? At least that's what you write on your website and RC also says it's up to date. If V 2.3 is not officially out yet, i can wait.

Two things that may be causing your crashes:
First, RC wants to install directly after the download. This is useful for the developer as it may cause fewer user install issues, however, it may not bypass UAC and thus not install completely. I always stop the automatic install and install manually. It seems when I allow the automatic install with an update, I get lots of crashes. Using the method described below has greatly ( and I mean greatly) minimized the crashes.
Step one: After download, right click the exe and open " Properties". Near the bottom right, click "Allow", then click "OK". The properties window will close. If you do not allow the program, Windows short circuits the install, particularly if the registry is written to during the installation.
Step two: Again, right click on the exe and select "Run as administrator". This is crucial on any installation if UAC has not been disabled.
I follow these steps religiously and do not have the crash problems that many have with any software. YMMV but it is worth a shot to try it. First though, at this stage, use control panel to remove the current installation.
Chris - I use HN as well and do not experience the crashes you report. (I just can't get my head around it), but I cannot ever remember a crash. You may want to give my method a try. The UAC is a real pita but I am sure you already know this.
