And this list is still short because the game itself only run for a couple of days, otherwise it might have been a bit longer.

It mainly shows that the men behind the machines are at least equally important than the instruments themselves I think.

This said you're perfectly right, DUNE is pretty versatile, and its workflow is for 90% of the unit very intuitive and fast.

I was able to program patches remisniscent of the 80s era like the Korg DW series, Ensoniq machines etc. And more than that approach in what I feel an interesting way, presets that people usually associate with rompler insruments, a la M1, TG series, D series, etc. Or FM instruments.

All in all this gives Dune an interesting sound palette. I also made some layered sounds with Dune and the Xils 3, Oxium, and sampled Mach 3 instruments. It gives very quickly very good and inspiring results. You can get some pretty HUGE sounds in a flash.

True.

And the reverse is equally true.

Even in similar territories, they will sound different. Just to recall us than a synth is much more than a pile of technical specifications or features, it has an identity, a sonic imprint, or should I say a "soul".

I know some synths that have much more features than DUNE, or that the PolyKBII. Even freeware ones, with 3km long features lists. Does that mean they sound better ? I dont know. What I know is that I would not hesitate to use the PolyKB II or Dune in tracks and production, and that I would never use some other synths.

Then, you have some very simple synths, like Monark, or its ancester, the Minimoog. Difficult to find synths with less "features". Equally difficult to find synths that do what they do in a better way.

Features, versatility, are just one criteria between a myriad of equally valid other criterias. Its up to people to determine the hierarchy of these criterias, while knowing that at the end of the day, only *some* sounds of *this* synth will stay on their tracks, than all the virtual other possibilities and possible patches will not, and the *this* sound should better serve their tracks the best.

Well my 0.002
