It looks you you just select a modulation source, such as an lfo or note velocity, and then move a knob to modulate it over the range you choose. So for example if you want to modulate filter cutoff, you would set the cutoff to the lowest value you want, thin click on "lfo 1" or whatever unused lfo there is, and move the knob up. Then you would get the parameter moving between where it started and the top point you set. Or you could do it the other way by putting the filter at it's highest point and then moving it down.BMoore wrote:

Is there a intuitive and/or logic to the parameter adjustments?
That's cool, I was wondering about the metadata workings of the browser. How much freedom do you have in creating your own categories and tags? Do you have complete control over what tags and categories there are to structure your library however you want or are there certain things you are forced into?garyboozy wrote:another nice detail is you can tag your presets...

To me, it looks like the modulation options on FxPansion products (like Etch, Dcam, Bloom, etc...). You click the button for your modulation source, then set the range of modulation by dragging. This just has a lot more options for modulation sources (and I absolutely love that audio can be selected as a source).BMoore wrote:

Although I'm sure I'll have more questions once I get a chance to use it, but my question now is if there's a way to easily see what parameters are being modulated? This being aside from seeing the ring move up and down, and aside from when the modulator source button is selected.
I ask, because I definitely agree the modulation options look very deep, but that reminds me of Alchemy, and my biggest complaint about using alchemy is when modulated parameter are also modulators... while the number of levels down is limited, it's not always easy to see what's what. When starting out, this might not seem like an issue, but imagine coming back to something a month later and wanting to change an audibly modulated parameter, but not being able to immediately locate it.

I can't wait to get my hands on this! This looks so promising to be the DAW of my dreams.
Thanks for posting the information you have and if I may ask please keep the goodies coming!
I have a question about per note modulation; has anybody attempted this yet? Will one be able to modulate, say volume or velocity, etc., per note? I'm not sure how unless one is working with a vst 3 module.
Unfortunately I'm not able to view the clip video at this time.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Happy Musiking!

Looking at the other stuff in the demo I guess I didn't explain it all. However it seems that the underlying logic with everything is that you "arm" a source, and then move the parameter itself over the distance you want it to move.BMoore wrote:

I'd be interested to see how Bitwig handles with 3rd party synths and effects... If I were to use Bitwig, I would still be mainly using my favorite synths and some effects, not necessarily the built-in devices. Obviously you would lose the note expression stuff but how about modulation? I would like to see a video of what Bitwig can do with the tools that I (and likely others) would actually be using...

Actually now that you mention it... I'm curious too.pdxindy wrote:I'd be interested to see how Bitwig handles with 3rd party synths and effects... I'm guessing though that there's still quite a few options. Considering that these guys are familiar with Ableton Live, then it'd be hard for me to think they'd forget how lovely grouping instruments and fx can be, followed by assigning macros as needed for 3rd party instruments and effects.
Can someone confirm grouping and assigning macros to 3rd party effects and instruments is either similar or better than what can be found in Live?

Good point. You would at least lose the visual feeback using a thirid party plug in gui.pdxindy wrote:I'd be interested to see how Bitwig handles with 3rd party synths and effects... One thing I was thinking though, is that when the modular system eventually comes out, you will be able to make your own guis for the devices that you code, right? So what's to stop you from skinning a third party plug and then using it the same as you would use a device. It should be possible with plugs that don't have some sort of super complex gui element that can't be duplicated.

It's actually pretty nice: you have a full list of all VST parameters and a search field (in the lucky case the developer took care of meaningful names
)
On those parameters you have the same options as on the internal instruments, but sure it's not as sexy as with the built in devices. But the parameters move in the VST plugin GUI so in the end you get the same visual feedback, just not as direct.
You can turn on a button to only see automated parameters in the list.
And yes, all the macro controls work for this as well. And you can create presets for these settings
Cheers,
Tom

I'd love to know this too... Just checked the website and there's no mention of it (not saying it doesn't, only saying I tried to find it).iU wrote:Anyone knows if Bitwig supports video playing at this stage?

I've just seen the video with the MIDI Velocity, Spread and Chaos function. Man, I want something like that in Cubase!
The "per note pitching" is also a great idea. Again, something I'd like to see as simplified as in Bitwig, but in Cubase. Even though Cubase can do that since C6. But only with selected VSTi (I think it's called note expression 2).
Else, looking a lot like Ableton Live. But well... you've got to start somewhere. I still remember FLStudio in it's "version 3" (Fruity Loops 3) incarnation. And how well it did evolve over the years.
