Hey.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good (copyright cleared) source of samples of people talking. Something like a radio archive in the public domain or something.

Language and sound quality doesnt matter as I intend to mangle them pretty hard. What is important is that the license is clear about allowing derivative works.

Any suggestions appreciated.

How about the Prelinger archive? It's a public domain library of advertising, educational, industrial, and amateur films...

http://www.archive.org/movies/prelinger.php

As an example... here's an AT&T film reel from the 1920s teaching people how to use dial telephones.

On the left side, you can download the film in a variety of formats...

Hey.. that link looks good. Their copyright info is a bit fuzzy, but I think they only have stuff that has fallen into the public domain. Some good links there too.

EDIT________________________________
It seems a license is attached per file, but Im sure ill find stuff I can use.
To bad Astonishing failures in the opensource audio archive doesnt allow derivatives. There arre some truly magnificent voice samples in there. ("You may have gained access to my physical orifices, but Ill tell you nothing!!")
