No, you have to use Bram's compressor! :D

Forever,

Kim.
I don't think you are right, jeez.

I would say you can use a compressor of your choice. The competition rules say: "You are allowed to pitch/stretch/cut the samples, use some basic DAW functionality like EQ and compressors.... You can use basic tools like a sampler to play back the sounds, loop them, ..." If you were allowed to use bram's compressor only, it would be senseless to mention "basic DAW functionality like compressors" and "samplers" in the same context.

Think Kim was being sarcastic there. :P

But I think the point is to not spend an overt amount of time making this song for Sony or Warner Bros. And taking as long as My Bloody Valentine to make a record. I think Bram and crew wants to hear SMEX stuff in 'full bloom' so to speak. :D

K. Cognizing sarcasm is obviously not my strength. :)

Btw, J Dub, SMEX say they wanna put the tracks on a CD. A bit of mastering should be advisable then. But you're absolutely right: competitors shall focus on the "music/noise".

I prefer to go to a mastering house when I make my own CD's - an extra set of ears is always good. ;) I just use Peak Master (usually 2.5 to 3db), Punch (light at 50% or so?) and Stereo Imager (get that balance right!) and MAYBE a C4 to master at home. But I much rather have Bram and the SMEX crew call the shots on mastering should my tune make it to CD. They seem to know their stuff pretty good. :D

Maybe Bram can put a dash of that Anechoic Chamber on my tunes to fatten it up?

Post

could Bram or someone from Smart Electronix please rule on this? :P

Done :D

Hey, don't laugh. I actually have a copy of an impulse taken in an anechoic chamber. ;)

(It's purpose is to document the quality of the chamber.)

received and "downloaded" files...
if your track is in this list, you can safely delete it from your site...

As you can see, not THAT many entries yet, so... if you're still doubting, now is the time to enter the competition ;)

Bug music! :-o :)

If any one is interested, I've started a thread in the Music Cafe for several tracks I made for the competition, including my entry.

Cheers,

BTW: I forgot to ask this. I have read all the rules, and one thing that wasn't mentioned is automation. Is automation allowed? (Assuming that the automation used only relates to Smart Electronix plugin parameters and volume/pan...?
