Reason Racks are a very small market, new and sdk not fully done or has problems.
Big 3rd party plugin developers are not going to develop Reason Racks, or they are developing lite versions.
as someone that has invested a huge amount of money into VST plugins to use in Sonar and Ableron I just cannot justify buying a similar Rack version of the same plugin or a new Rack only product that I can only use in Reason.
I really love Reason 7 but not being able to use my Kontact sample libraries, my Spectrasonic plugins (Omni, Trill and Stylus), my EastWest PLAY libraries, GuitarRig, Amiplitube etc is frustrating.
I did get my NI Maschine standalone working with Reason 7 thanks not to Propellerheads but by creative users and YouTube video help.
It is really nice that other Reason users feel the same way. Reading the Prop Reason Forums there are many many many posts about VST and Reason.

At least you can use Rewire between Reason and a different host (say, Reaper) to use those VSTs...

I'm not getting Reason 6.5 to show up in FL Studio's Rewire channel any longer after I upgraded to FL11.EvilDragon wrote:At least you can use Rewire between Reason and a different host (say, Reaper) to use those VSTs...
I dunno if there could be some mismatch between 32 and 64 bit environments. I mean FL Studio is still at heart a 32 bit DAW even though it can load 64 bit plugs right?

No I have no hidden knowledge. just what some developers have said when asked if they would develop a Rack version of their plugins. Read in various posts on Props Forum.Numanoid wrote:Have you seen sales figures?MachineClaw wrote:Reason Racks are a very small market

Isn't it obvious without sales figures? Plus ins made for one DAW vs Plug ins made for almost everything else. I don't think you need sales figures for that.Numanoid wrote:Have you seen sales figures?MachineClaw wrote:Reason Racks are a very small market

A reason rack extension for REAKTOR? is this even possible, I would love to have prism as a vsti apart from reaktor so if they can make a reaktor rack extension I would be very much interested in the addons of reaktor as standalone vstis..

VST for RE? Can't happen, won't happen. The legal and technical barriers are high.
RE is not so much a plugin format as an operating system of its own; all REs are released through Props so there's not much chance of reverse-engineering the format. If Props wanted VST in Reason it'd be much easier for them to do it themselves.. and it seems they still don't.

Bad news - it cannot be done. RE is designed in such a way, that there is basically no way to port other plugins into it. That's why there will never be our plugins as RE and others as well. Moreover, yet another format?... The fact the Avid is so lame they cannot use any standard are rather make their own is sad. But with Reason it's a no go - the design of RTAS/AAX makes it pretty easy to make a wrapper, with RE the definition is so "original" (literally...), that it makes it impossible. Unfortunately only simple plugins will be able as RE, until they decide to allow normal plugin design.
Btw. I agree that VST is primitive, ancient etc... But it's a standard, however bad it is. Right now Steinberg is discarding VST2 completely and going for VST3. Not a good move in my opinion, but VST3 is so far the best thing available, so I think that should be the choice.

Wouldn't the problem be solved by allowing Reason to act as a Rewire host, as well as a slave? This seems to me to be doable (even by Propellerhead), and would allow a Reaper user, for example, to run their VSTs directly into Reason (which is what I would like to do). I have rigged VST audio directly into Reason by using Jack, but if Reason could act as a Rewire host this would seem to be the simplest approach.

Reason is nothing more than a gimmick and Propellerheads is nothing more than a myopic and profit driven company........
There that sums it up pretty well......have a nice day......

As opposed to UHE for example which in my experience is just as concerned about giving it's customers what they want and need as they are in generating profit.Numanoid wrote:Hmmm, a company driven by profit, yes that is a noveltyTeksonik wrote:profit driven company........
Props have always seemed to be more concerned about what they want than what you want....simply witness this thread for a perfect example.

just curious, why it's not a good move in your eyes?Right now Steinberg is discarding VST2 completely and going for VST3. Not a good move in my opinion, but VST3 is so far the best thing available, so I think that should be the choice.
