Ringmodulation is Amplitude / Frequency Modulation, so its quite basic to understand.

The most softsynths have this feature. For crazy AM i recommend NI Driver
cheers

Poly-Ana!

http://www.admiralquality.com/products/Poly-Ana/.
Includes the ability to use audio inputs as a modulator and/or carrier sources.
On the Mod Mixers, changing the combination switch from + to x will create an audio rate ring modulator instead of regular additive mixing of the modulation sources.
Ring modulator (AM) destinations include the oscillator output levels, and amplifier pan or level modulation. Oscillators and filter cutoffs also support audio rate frequency modulation, as well as phase modulation for the oscillators (as used for "FM" synthesis).

pg8x (http://www.kvraudio.com/product/pg-8x-by-ml-vst/details) has cross-modulation, which is in between RM and AM. One oscillator can be modulated by the other oscillator, which however is slightly offset.
As the modulating oscillator only has saw, pulse and square, the cross modulation always creates a very rich frequency spectrum, as compared to modulating with a pure sine.
Cheers,
Martin

There is one sorely missing here, which is strange, because every synth enthusiast knows it, everyone would like to own a real one, and the way that RM is implemented on it by default is probably the most useful of all.
Audio hint here.
Can you identify it?
(Piece of cake if you know your synths.)

Thanks for the explanation, so if I understand well, FM is a particular case of RM, such as AM is ?wehkah wrote:Ringmodulation is Amplitude / Frequency Modulation, so its quite basic to understand.

Sorry, but all of this makes me quite confused.

Waldorf Largo has ringmod. Without the slightest touch of analog sound. But i like it.
Together with wavetables, fm, sync and filter overdrive you get everything between detuned pulsing pads and melting nuclear power plant.
