Admit it, your just envious about the $29 upgrade :D
It looks to be $29 dollars for EVERYONE (it makes no mention of upgrade price and is marked down from 199 as 'exclusive introductory price'). http://www.applied-acoustics.com/ultra-analog-va-2/#buy

clicking that link, it doesn't ask for VA-1 serial (like the upgrade link does)

just drops it in my shopping cart:

Here its 149. Did you submit a serial before on that upgrade link ? It might save that infomation for the session.

Don't understand the new GUI. All those tabs? Best thing about it before was the single window interface. No new features, just new effects? Nah.

Yes that is what happened.. it must be in a cookie after you click the link. That said, I don't own VA-1 as I sold it a couple of years ago (and had AAS transfer the license proper).

Sorry, all, for the false info!

Yeah I was wondering about this - looks like they are selling the old banks for V2 so they must have redone them. I own a couple so I hope there's an upgrade process for banks too.

I agree and unique is the key term. Limited yet unique synths like the Arp Prosolist, and Elka Rhapsody 490 will have far greater impact than more polysynths at this point. NI's near-perfect Model D for Reaktor was a forward thinking decision.
saintjohnbaxter wrote:That is strange. I love the sound of Ultra-Analog. I've got probably, 8 or 9 commercial banks for it - Starlight, Angelicals etc.

Why would they make a v2 and kill all the sounds from v1? If it's a completely new synth, incomptaible with v1, it should have been called something else and not UA v2.
FYI AAS synths have never been backwards compatible.

Not being able to save a MIDI CC assignment per patch (still) = FAIL.

WTF? This was pretty unforgivable in V1, but to continue it into V2 is just blunder. You'll not get another dime from me. I can put my own VST effects after your synth and I could care less about Richard Devine presets.

Put in a decent mod matrix and update the sound engine and perhaps you'll see me back.

At the bottom of the UA 2 upgrade page it definately says:
With eight Sound Bank Series titles adding up to a thousand presets, Ultra Analog VA-2 looks forward to spark your imagination—whenever you need it.
Which seems to imply that they have UA2 compatible versions of at least those 8 (which include the ones I have). Just isn't clear how you get them for owners of the originals.

Although to add to the confusion if you go to the actual product pages for those banks they just say:
for Ultra Analog VA-1 & AAS Player
Guess they need to update the whole site

Why?! Why would you add a few features (and effects which most people have lots of anyway at that) and in the process make every patch ever made incompatible?! If only features are added, ideally you should keep preset compatability or a built-in patch convert upon loading. Perhaps they changed the architecture or something.

One of the major bugbears with all their plugins was lack of decent preset management, including the ability to organise presets manually instead of using their proprietary import process (which always left a huge mess to navigate). So they have created a new preset format and browser to enable that. In itself that is a good thing but they really should also have also enabled some sort of transfer process for old presets.

Still it's worth it for me at that price - finally a 64 bit AU version!
