safe to say after the envelope improvements they sound pretty much identical.
i could tell them apart in the first demos posted on release (and in those the hardware sounded a little better, a little punchier). but in these new sound demos it's absolutely impossible for me to distinguish the real thing from the software.
stunning achievement in realism, well done TAL for an absolutely perfect job.
something tells me many sh-101s will start appearing on ebay soon lol.

We uploaded two new demos that compares the hardware against the plugin, because most people do not have an 101 and the first demo was not optimal, we changed some things in the envelope after we made the demo.

Recorded @ 44.1kHz. Hardware and software alternate after each note. The hardware device starts. Every attack sounds different. This is related to the free running VCO and the reason we play every note more than once in this demo, otherwise it would not be possible to compare the envelope attack.

recorded @ 44.1kHz. The hardware plays a arpeggiator sequence. In the middle of each sequence the software starts to play the same arpeggiator pattern.

I am ashamed to admit I never checked out Togu synths until a couple of months ago and I think it mainly was the strange name of the company. Terrible case of judging a book by its cover. If I was their marketing guy, I would slowly shift towards "TAL" - kinda like Kentucky Fried Chicken changing to KFC over time.

Now I can't live without Bassline and UNO - absolutely stunning synths! Much more user friendly and immediate than LUSH. For anyone who makes tech-house, these two synths are just about indispensable.

Yeah, I'd have loved to take a blind guess, because I still hear some "roundness" here and there compared to hardware. So I would have loved to hear it without knowing which is which, and pick the ones which I like more and then maybe to shut the f***k myself up.
That "roundness" doesn't give up anything though, it's just heard when compared directly, so I can't claim, that I can tell "Software" apart, especially this close and most of the time you'd need some sort of "magnifying glass" equivalent to discern something from this, if anything at all.

Well, I read somewhere that its samples are protected, so I guess there will never be a good emulation of the D-50, except maybe by Roland themselves.

Anyway, saying x is the most convincing emulation of synth y probably never means much as the direct competition for y emulations is so limited.

Bassline-101 is not just the most convincing SH-101 emulation yet, it totally seems to nail it. At this point doing anther emulation of it would be quite pointless IMO, except if that new one would contain additional features (but then it would no longer be a proper emulation).

Not to knock this synth, I bought it along with U-NO. Excellent synths but I get satisfaction from supporting the smaller devs.

Speaking of which, all Windows user should check out the drum module Bong from xoxos.

This makes an excellent compliment to these synths, sounds like a proper old skool drum module, loads of algos for each drum type but very user friendly and expresive.

Plus its cheap

They gave MuLab 6/10 and Corona a 7/10. Go figure. I wouldn't say it's a noobs mag btw. Anything helping people to get into eletronic music making is very positive. And they have some really helpful articles and tutorials. If you want to complain about their reviews, well, that's because the mag and the companies take profit out of positive reviews. It helps both the mag and the branch to survive. Of course it is not a true rating. But mostly you can see a tendency.
