Though all this GUI whining is already too much said re: GUI instead of the sound, I'll chime in now briefly to say that I very much like the Klanghelm GUI's. And, I'm posting this so Kanghelm knows there is a silent, less noisy, cohort of customers who really like the Klanghelm GUI's very much. They are very well executed, though perhaps a tiny wee bit too dramatic in shadow/3D effect. I like working with virtual gear that looks like real gear. As a real person, who grew up in real times before virtual times, I like real. Klanghel, keep it up!
So, 'nuff said re: GUI. Let's talk sound and substance here about this plugin........

If someone hate to talk about the GUI, it's me.
But if I keep my mouth shut everybody will think this is the way to go when it is NOT. Look at IK Multimedia GUIs! Are they looking bad?! Look at so many Waves and U-he plugins that don't have 3D perspective and fake reflections and they look awesome! I'm really so against this terrible trend and I won't shut up about it. I'm all for every kind of a GUI that doesn't impair the functionality of the plugin, resembling hardware or not I don't really care, but these "additional features" just impair the workflow. I hate them with passion. What use is a VU meter if you can't clearly see the needle? Tell me? What use is it? Imagine having a hardware VU meter that has a constant glare on it no matter what you do with it? Nice?
Would you buy a VU meter that has a glare of somebody's window on its screen? I wouldn't.
It's just that bit too much that doesn't add absolutely anything to the functionality of the GUI.
Is this ugly I ask you? I thought so.
Does anybody have a problem with this GUI and wouldn't buy it because it doesn't have 3D perspective bent knobs and fake glare in the screen? So why are you defending the stupidity of it?

This is as far as a hardware lookalike GUI for a software plugins should go IMO to stay functional and look nice. I have 0 problems with this GUI. Zero. Nada. But then you bend the knobs so you can't see instantly where the value of the knob is and you add some stupid fake glare on the screen so you can't see the needle normally and I have an instant huge problem with it.
I have a bad eyesight on top of that. Not everybody in this world has a perfect vision. So when a GUI is not readable at once foe me, I don't like it. Its not usable for me as I have to stare at it and use the precious time to decipher the values of the knobs and the needle instead of doing the work and listening to the sound of it .
btw. those who have seen my posts know that I'm one of the proponents of GUIless plugins. I actually couldn't care less about the GUI, any GUI. All I care about is sound. But when there is a GUI, then make it properly at least ffs.
Just throw a look at the latest Sonimus EQ... it's a disaster. It's a d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r! When I saw it, I just cringed. Absolutely terrible. It's a prime example of how not to make a GUI. Prime example. I can't even look at it as it makes me sick. I wouldn't use it even if it was free! Honestly! It looks bent and the knobs are so small. Terrible GUI design. Colours are nice, and it does look good in general, but fake 3D perspective is terrible. Without it and with bigger knobs it would look awesome!

Rant over.
Think about it, girls and boys.

I'm so glad for you. You have good vision also do you?b15fliptop wrote:Thought about it. Love the SonEQ and Klanghelm GUI's without reservation.
And you don't like the IK compressor GUI and you wouldn't buy it because it doesn't have 3D perspective and fake glare in the screen? I didn't ask if you like SonEQ or not. I asked if you would not buy a bloody plugin because it doesn't have 3D perspective and fake glare in the screen! I could also rephrase this question to include Satson EQ. Would you not like it and buy it if it didn't have fake 3D perspective on the knobs?
Also, do you own any real hardware? Would you like your hardware to come with bent knobs and with constant fake glare in the screen? Can't you see the stupidity of it?

I've got good vision a and none of the GUIs you mention bother me in the slightest, but I respect your opinion as you did a good job articulating what you do and do not like. I honestly would prefer fewer fake 3D perspectives, but DC8C2 and SonEQ don't bother me enough to not buy based on their GUI, or honestly even give a flying fart over. There are horrible UIs out there, but In my opinion, nothing you pointed out fits that bill.DuX wrote:I'm so glad for you. You have good vision also do you?b15fliptop wrote:Thought about it. The Klanghelm GUIs aren't the worst. I could work with them without any problems.
What I HATE are extremely faked 3D-effect-GUIs like stuff from AdmiralQuality. As good as the sound may be (for example Poly-Ana), I couldn't work with them! Just by looking at them for a second, I feel dizzy.

I'm just wondering if people would not buy a plugin because it doesn't have a fake 3D perspective and fake glare on the screen. Is anybody out there who wouldn't buy it because of that? It would make it easier on the developers not having to bother with rendering 3D perspective GUIs and take photos of their windows to use for fake glares on the fake screens.
Make their lives easier. If nobody cared about these "features" they wouldn't care, either. At least I hopeso...
As long as they think they sell plugins because the GUI looks "extra real", they will make them to look terrible like some plugins do. SDRR could be a beautiful, probably one of the best looking plugins that I know, but without the "extra real" features. Yeah, I really hate them so much. It's like a beautiful blonde that has a penis... you know?
AdmiralQuality GUIs are a category of its own, Tricky.

You should make a thread with a poll, seriously.DuX wrote:I'm just wondering if people would not buy a plugin because it doesn't have a fake 3D perspective and fake glare on the screen. I have bought so many plugins without any 3d perspective (for example Meldaproduction plugins or Synthmaster) that I don't care at all about it... I rather prefer GUIs without 3d effects.

I might as well do so. Great idea, Tricky!
Not to congest this thread any further with this crap.

klanhghelm guis are fine, a bit heavy on the 3D/shadows as has already been noted, and i admit to preferring the old dc8c gui to the new one (any chance of the old gui back as an option tony?), but that's all so subjective. they are cheap and sound amazing, which is the main thing!

I've just gone back and checked SDRR - I can't see any glare on the VU - there is some slight effect but it is barely visible - am I missing something?
I use outboard extensively (Manley Vari Mu, Thermionic Phoenix etc) and I think the SDRR GUIS are really nice.
Some people like some guis, some like others - nothing new. There are some frightful guis on beautiful-sounding plugins and the other way around too...

Yep, it's very subjective. Hard to please everyone.Kindred wrote: Some people like some guis, some like others - nothing new. There are some frightful guis on beautiful-sounding plugins and the other way around too...
I've even seen complaints about FabFilter GUIs.

If you read more carefully what I said, I said that SDRR looks good, and even compared it with a beautiful blonde with some "unwanted features"
, but that the 3D perspective - bent knobs and the glare in the VU meter screen are too much and impair the workflow a little bit, instead of enhancing it. And then I showed IK Black 76 GUI which is IMO one of the best looking and so easy to work with and easy on the eyes. Shame I cannot show you what it would look like if styled with 3D perspective and the fake glare. Klanghelm DC8C and IVGI GUIs are great and easy to work with! DC8C2 is not that bad as the fake perspective is not too strong and there's no fake glare on the screen. It is made with taste and easy to work with, but it would be the best to completely do away with any 3D perspective or fake reflections/glares. Everybody would still say that the GUI is fantastic.
And I want to stress out that I really really like how Klanghelm plugins sound. IVGI has done so much for my mixes. I only want the best for Klanghelm. To live long and prosper.
