29 bucks for a horrible new interface? I have never seen so many tabs for such a simple synth! There's even extra tabs for modulation. Have the developers completely lost it? People like simple synth because they're fun and straight forward to program - this is a nightmare and you have never any overview of how the synth is programmed. MASSIVE failure of an update. Any way to download older versions?
There's a reason why soft synths like Thor, Subtractor, Malstrøm, Zebra, Dune, Sylenth1 and Predator are so damn popular - you can see (pretty much) everything on one single page!!
Oh and what happened to the brilliant color coding? This is all grey and just straight up confusing. Anyone who liked the original should not update unless they really need a 64 bit version!

I have to agree, I was playing with both side by side today - v1 is vastly superior in almost every way, more intuitive GUI, better browser, easy to program and I can even read the text! They sound the same, v2 is a big step backwards and probsbly the worst GUI design I have come across for years, it looks pretty enough, but it just isn't practical.fceramic wrote:29 bucks for a horrible new interface? f**king-a AAS! I love the VA-1 but even that needed a bigger GUI. You royally f**ked up IMO and I will not buy it for $29. This was the only synth release I was looking forward to this year.
PLEASE tell us you will make a usable and pleasurable GUI.
My money is now going to the IK Group Buy.

It's like AAS don't actually use these instruments themselves and had absolutely no input from testers.
Congrats to AAS for making a simple two oscillator VA incredibly unpractical and tedious to program! Like how the empty area with the Ultra Analog logo takes up almost 20 % of the GUI!
BTW how the hell do you initialize the patching? Can't find any templates or an init patch.

A bit OT, but still related to general GUI of VST Synths.
Anyone know why so many GUI's are not Re-Sizable via dragging on a corner of the GUI and stretching until you have it large enough to comfortably see the details of the GUI without having to use a magnifier
?
Is this because of Bit-Mapped vs Vector Graphics used in the coding of the GUI ? Why are VST GUI developers unable to make this happen easily ? It's 2013 and I feel we should not be restricted to Fixed-GUI sizes.
Thanks,
Muziksculp

Has been discussed sometimes before by developers, basically is not simple because of vector vs bit mapped graphics. Photorealistic GUI can't do it at all, even the ones which are realizable in steps get blurry.Muziksculp wrote:A bit OT, but still related to general GUI of VST Synths.

I agree that it would be nice to have it, as well as better gui's overall.

Just go have a look at U-He GUI:s to see how it should be done…

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

While its nice it doesnt compare to Valhalla verbs or Aalto implementation which allow dragging.Spitfire31 wrote:Just go have a look at U-He GUI:s to see how it should be done…

I haven't spent that much time with it, just enough to download, authorize it and go through the sounds quickly. First impressions are it's a little 'smoother' in it's sound. That may turn some off and turn others on. I like it, especially if I don't compare it to VA1 and take for what it is. But it's not so different that it doesn't have an 'AAS' sound.V0RT3X wrote:So the GUI is a bit of an annoyance im gathering?

As far as the GUI, it is small and have others have complained, contains page tabs. Which I find logical and simple to navigate without any problem so far. I haven't measured it, but if you took all three pages and laid them out together in one, I think it would be similar in size to VA1. The interface seems cleaner to me and easier to access the specific parameters you're looking for. I really am not having any of the gripes others are talking about.
Price may have something to do with it though, since I was given the upgrade free. (I guess because I'm a registered full bundle and session owner? IDK).
I have mentioned the couple of 3rd party banks I owned to them and they've already replied they intend to contact those designers and help them port their banks accordingly. I only have one bank from them for it and that was updated today. As usual, the support and communication have been some of the best.
Granted, the Ultra-Analogs and Tassman 4 have not been any go-to everytime synth for me, but it does have a character that blends well in the mix and I have used them.
They tell me, String Studio VS1 is next (which is my number one go-to in their bundle). Personally, I hoped more for Tassman 4 first. And I hope VS1 doesn't get much more than a browser preset re-working. But the company has been very good to me and the VI's I can find a use for, even if I'm not tweaking them like I do others in my libraries.
Support has been very communicative and helpful (Although it is the least problematic software to install and use).
