Hey Space - do you know if Audition comes with the codecs for .ogg? Or would you have to add them separately? I have the free ones..

Again and again:

(make sure to d/l the OGG codec as well)

Just a word: Converting from a lossy format to another lossy format degrades the sound even more...

I'd recommend you to reencode using a lossless format(depending on your platform): like FLAC, Wavpack,Monkey Audio etc...

ah.. but see..
you don't have to download the ogg codec if you install winlame, it does it for you (same for the lame codec ;))

Well, the Codec download takes another few seconds and everybody I know would never want to live without dbpoweramp again - so why not just do it now and be happy until the end of times?
Btw, I am using dbpoweramp along with the Lame codec, which IMO is just the best.

Then, Kajiki, regarding the lossy-to-lossy format conversion:
What sort of CD are you planning to burn? If it's gonna happen to be an MP3 CD then you're somewhat lost as you need to convert from one to another lossy format (I know the problem as my car CD won't read OGG directly as well).
If you're going to burn a plain audio CD, you should just use dbpoweramp, any of the other mentioned tools or even WinAmp to convert all the way straight to 16/44.1 wave format to avoid any double conversions (I do however think that Nero 6 will burn OGG to audio CD straight away).

the monkeys audio website wrote:Description:

Monkey’s Audio is a fast and easy way to compress digital music. Unlike traditional methods such as mp3, ogg, or lqt that permanently discard quality to save space, Monkey’s Audio only makes perfect, bit-for-bit copies of your music. That means it always sounds perfect – exactly the same as the original. Even though the sound is perfect, it still saves a lot of space. (think of it as a beefed-up Winzip™ for your music) The other great thing is that you can always decompress your Monkey's Audio files back to the exact, original files. That way, you'll never have to recopy your CD collection to switch formats, and you'll always be able to recreate the original music CD if something ever happens to yours.

It is, Mang. q/ "Efficient (fast and great compression) – Monkey's Audio is highly optimized and highly efficient
Perfect sound – absolutely no quality loss, meaning it sounds perfect and decompresses perfect (it's lossless!)"/q [from their website.

Phz 's been faster!

If you want lossless audio compression, use WinRar. Does the same compression ratios as anything else (up to over 50% on 24bit files).

But I don't think that was what the original question was all about...
