I asked a question in CW forum as to which files I can copy to new version to keep my PC modules but haven't got an answer. $199 upgrade price is very high. I can get second hand S1 in MP even less than that. OTOH studio at $99 is reasonable for the simple reason that you will also get Melodyne Essential with it. Don't know how much it's going to be used but still. Not sure how good BlueTubes FX are included in studio version. If you don't care about Melodyne and Pro-channel (they are really good btw) and have enough FX already then go for Basic version. You will get all the core functions plus ARA integration. So in future if you buy Melodyne then it will work in Basic version as well.) I rather buy it straight from Celemony (or AudioDeluxe) than bundeled with X3 Producer.
I also have Superior Drummer and lots of SDX and EZX packs so I don't need (or want) more virtual drummer software on my computer. What else...? Well... Satin, ReelBus, a pretty nice collection of Waves stuff, everything from Valhalla, Ozone 5, T-Racks Grand, AmpliTube 3... so, that's why I'm not not very excited about X3 Producers bundeled plug-ins.
I hope they get their DAW stable and also re-think their product bundles and marketing.

I just looked on Hoover's and they actually list CW revenue at 8.5Mil.trimph1 wrote:If that is correct...key phrase.chrisby wrote:Just for a little more perspective, Adobe's revenue last year was about 4.5 Billion, CW's was around 12 million a few years ago when I saw if published if I remember correct....deastman wrote: Its easy to think of Adobe and Cakewalk as giant, faceless corporations, but the actual number of developers working on a given application is much smaller than you might expect....
However; that being said, it does mean that resources are not going to be as much on the ground so one will have to wait a bit longer.
But they will get done.

Even the base version has all core functionality except Pro-channel and other plugins. No number of track limit, no number of FX/Plugin limit, you get the whole thing.chrisby wrote:Their mid-level sonar option I think does include all the base functionality upgrades w/o the extra plugs...J4R1O wrote:I'm sure that Melodyne is great, but I've managed to get some pretty decent results with V-Vocal. @J4R1O: You got everything covered by other excellent plugins. You should take a look at basic version. IMO that's the best option for you.

Sure that's the revenue? Sounds more like the sales volume...chrisby wrote:I just looked on Hoover's and they actually list CW revenue at 8.5Mil.trimph1 wrote:If that is correct...key phrase.chrisby wrote:Just for a little more perspective, Adobe's revenue last year was about 4.5 Billion, CW's was around 12 million a few years ago when I saw if published if I remember correct....deastman wrote: Its easy to think of Adobe and Cakewalk as giant, faceless corporations, but the actual number of developers working on a given application is much smaller than you might expect....

Well Hover's states both sales and revenue as 8.5 Mil... which makes sense as they don't really have any other source of revenue that I can think of (unless there are paid support options?). Either way, even at twice that, the original point was that they have to manage to do what they do with very limited resources for a sw company....chk071 wrote:Sure that's the revenue? Not sure if it makes sense, as usually the revenue is much, much lower than the sales volume. And considering Cakewalk just got sold, it's very likely that the revenue is not only nada, but they have gotten into the red.chrisby wrote: Well Hover's states both sales and revenue as 8.5 Mil... which makes sense as they don't really have any other source of revenue that I can think of (unless there are paid support options?).
Edit: Or do i get "revenue" wrong? It is their earnings, right?

Don't know if it's already been posted, but just came across this overview video from Sonic State:
The presenter is really good, first reminded me a bit of a drill seargant, but he knows what's up.

Crikey... he looks like the sort of guy who'd make you an upgrade offer you couldn't refuse...
(edit - joking, obviously! I'm just jealous of someone that seems to be getting more out of his gym membership than I am...

Revenue includes sales, interest income, royalties, proceeds from settlements, etc. So, it's the opposite of what you stated, revenue is going to be HIGHER than sales, because it includes sales and other income a business makes. I'm pretty certain what you have in mind is net income, which is revenue minus expenses.chk071 wrote:Not sure if it makes sense, as usually the revenue is much, much lower than the sales volume. Yep, "gross" vs "net" income. Hover's is reporting gross...eDrummist wrote:Revenue includes sales, interest income, royalties, proceeds from settlements, etc. So, it's the opposite of what you stated, revenue is going to be HIGHER than sales, because it includes sales and other income a business makes. FYI, doing the full blown X3 producer upgrade ($149) and then the special Celemony X3 Melodyne Essential to Editor 2.1 upgrade ($149) is about the same (if not less) than getting the Melodyne Editor separately (depending on where you buy from).J4R1O wrote: I guess that if I happen to get an urge to buy it (that might happen) I rather buy it straight from Celemony (or AudioDeluxe) than bundeled with X3 Producer.
I was not planning on upgrading to X3, as I was still miffed about X2 and lack of updates. But after Cake announced that an X3a update was already included in the download version and then seeing X3b just released and then the announcement that an X3c with more new features/enhancements was on the horizon, I really began evaluating the X3 new feature set.
The forum feedback from those already using X3 has been overwhelmingly positive (unlike X2), both in regards to the new features and more importantly to me the overall stability and feel of the new release. The new Melodyne integration, comping features, VST enhancements, color customization's and improved stability were of most interest to me.
What finally swung me to update to X3 was the killer upgrade offer from Celemony. Upgrade to the full Melodyne Editor version (from the included basic Essential version on X3) for $149. The Editor version is typically around $300 street. I have always wanted to get Melodyne Editor in the past, but could not really justify the price, but for $298, I not only got the X3 Producer upgrade with full ARA Melodyne integration, but the full Editor 2.1 version to boot. Everything else I got in X3 ( new features, new FX/softsynth plug-ins, added stability, etc) is a nice bonus!
So far, I have only had SONAR X3b installed for a few days, but I can already tell it is performing better than X2 ever did and the ARA integration has been working flawlessly with Melodyne Editor. It actually feels like a part of X3 instead of being just a clumsy tack on. Overall, I am pretty impressed with X3. The more I think about it, I feel SONAR X2 was Cakewalks "MS Vista" moment whereas, X3 is it's Win 7.
Cheers,
Billy Buck
