Good afternoon

i'm searching for a free medieval music Soundfonts source, does anybody knows a good website or websites? i need medieval percussion essentially

I have Edirol's Orchestral VSTi, but that's for classical music, is there something equivalent for medieval music too?

thanks!

Search then for samples of a bodhran or simular primitive drum that's still in use.

Hi, how are you? :)

well, what i need is percussion like the ones on Hespèrion XXI, Jordi Savall music. I know i can find good things like Era Medieval Legends VST, but that's a lot of gigabytes and the price is too high, $219.00. To me a small set of soundfonts like 40/50mb is ok and free if possible, if the sample quality is good, that's even better. Thanks anyway! :)

Do you know the exact names of the instruments you're looking for?

Sounds like you're after nakers, tambours, side drums, frame drums and maybe early timpani. The Era collection sounds good, as does Soniccouture's Conservatoire Collection, but as you say they both have price tags attached (though you might save a little by bidding for them in the Charity Auction!)

One thing that does spring to mind is that some of the 80s/90s romplers had quite a bit of percussion, and some of that would have done the job for you. I'd happily sell you my old MR Rack with the World expansion, which still sounds great, but if soundfonts is the format you're after I see that Digital Sound Factory have the MR collection, which includes all the ethnic percussion, and as an alternative the samples from the E-Mu Planet Earth. Can't be sure what you want is in there, but the price tag isn't too steep and you can often find discounts and sales as well.

Whilst it's probably not what you were looking for it's perhaps useful for others who want to start making mediaval music. It features Symphony Hall Bank GM soundfont;

Look for the R.A.W. Samples by Herman Whitkam. They are free and very high quality. His ethic instruments were amazing.

I likely could record my Thomann nakers at some point - what does it take to produce a VST from them?
You can tell I play percussion - I was once sworn in by the City Magistrates of Chester as being authorised "to perform lewdly" on them, in the streets of the said fair City, without let or hindrance from the Police, for a year.
Other instruments may follow.

Best is to create a Sfz and/or Kontakt library...

Thanks, I've been working in pure voice since just before Kontakt came in. At least the SFZ format remains the same. I presume I can convert .wav to Kontakt - any preferred tools, please?
