Best advice yet on this thread; the best plugins are worthless to you if you are gagging on your sequencer's interface. Get aquainted with THAT before you spend any money on plugins.

Fact is, there's so many fantastic freebie's out there, you have more than enough instruments available to get used to your DAW of choice. If you're on a PC, trying them all out can be downright counter-productive there are so f**king many cool ones out there... A super-easy host starting out would be Orion Platinum, but that's a subjective opinion (mine..).

After that, if you really wanna open the doors to the universe, get yourself Reaktor.

Guys, what can I say. I really appreciate the time you have taken to help me out. I'm amazed at how friendly and welcoming you all are.

It does look like I have alot of research to conduct. I have printed this thread out so I can have it handy when I try all the programs mentioned.

I love Tracktion, but if the stuff you're doing is more MIDI than Audio (as in, recording audio), it may not be your best bet. Tracktion doesn't have the friendliest MIDI tools (not bad, but there are definitely better).

Also, don't assume that the big names are necessarily better. They're not. Find a host that works for YOU. One that feels right and that can do all the things you want or need to do.

Definitely check out energyXT. You can sequence quite easily in it and it's getting better and more powerful every week. It's also incredibly cheap, so it's not too bad if you buy at and then move on to something else, especially since it's also an instrument and an effect that can be used in any other host! It's a quick and painless download/install and the demo can save but not load files.

And the money you save can be used to buy more plugins!
