They won't

Its funny that you know exactly what the props will implement Quincy. You don't have a clue, just like the rest of us. They have announced zero info - everything is speculation.

You know what, its not like me to be so cocky(really it isn't), but i'd go out on a limb and say that i think its about 1000 to 1 that they will ever implement VST support.floyd wrote:Its funny that you know exactly what the props will implement Quincy. I don't personally care, i don't use reason, and i doubt i ever will. What i do know, is that reason was from the start meant to be a self-contained software solution, and there has never been any suggestion that it will ever be anything else.
I just think its HIGHLY unlikely that they will go against the very thing that makes reason what it is, its self-contained nature. If they ever did implement VST support, they would be switching target market, and probably scare off new customers who want a self-contained solution. And ones who want a truly reliable system, which very few open host sequencers/studios are.

If Reason was meant to be a self-contained env, why invent Rewire? To me it was a compromise solution. The props were saying "sure, you can use Reason w/ other programs, but you do it OUR way"
Its highly doubtful that the props will implement vsti support in Reason - I'll admit that. But they may decide on another compromise solution: changing Rewire so its less clunky loading songs, making Rewire bidirectional so at least you can get outside audio through Reason's effects etc etc.

Still going on? Like many users I've got a love/hate thing with this proggie, but IMHO you're more likely to see Longhorn become open-source than VSTi support in Reason. They're too proud; it's their playground and they don't want anybody else's toys in it. They're trying to put something together that puts them indisputably at the top of the charts, so everybody'll be happy to do it their way.

It's obvious that you did not get my point, or you simply cannot be open-minded about it ...
(thick sculls and all that ....)
I want to have Malstrom and Redrum and RV7000 ONLY and NOT PAY for the whole package!
Don't i have the right (at least) to ask for this?
For god's sake!!!! Why do you get so angry?

for f**k's sake.. ram it into your thick skulls for once and for all.. Reason is not Cubase, etc. just like a sampler is not a granular synth, and a modeled analogue is not a digital bass synth

I didnt have a chance to read the whole thread...just some of it. I DID happen to catch at least 10 vst moans though....whatever.
Personally, I think a likely scenario (probably not version 3 though) is that the props will enlist the help of some outside companies to build devices for Reason. Someone like Linplug, RGC or Virsyn. Build the Z3TA+ right into Reason.

You haven't missed much...the funny thing here is if Reason wasn't so compelling ppl wouldn't be freaking out like they are. By thier arguments they betray admiration even as they incessantly bitch about it.
Reason 3..whatever you want it to be, count on it NOT being what exactly what you want. I look forward to WHATEVER comes next.

it would probally be if the props released all the instruments in reason as vst's instead of allowing reason to accept vst's. sell the whole lot for 200 usd.

an interesting idea, but in my opinion they probably shouldn't as it takes away reasons (no pun intended) to buy their main software, and then there is the whole refill thing.
I read the comment about rewire being a comprimise to the whole vst issue, but I was sure that rewire was initially only meant to connect Reason and Rebirth. Cubase was next and it took off from there, right? I could be mistaken, but I don't personally see it as a sign that they are somehow already on the road to giving in to the requests for VST. I see it more as a case of them going, hey, if you want to make your app compatible with Reason so you can lure some of those people who are outgrowing it, we've got this rewire thing you can implement... And they were right, too. It's a very very good business move, as the responsibility for a stable integration is then put on the other companies because Reason and rewire are already inherently stable. Whereas, with VST, Reason would be the host, and so compatibility would become Propellerheads problem, and with the sheer numbers of VST plugins available, not even counting the free synthedit made VSTis, that could turn into a never ending story. I think they would be taking a HUGE chance, and for what? They are still one of the most popular and well respected appz around. Sure, it might be nice if I could load up Superwave Performer, or CronoX2 into reason, but it's not necessary - nice, but not a huge big deal that I can't. There are so many other choices out there, I think they just really know the market.
By the way, I never bothered updating from 1.0, and to me it doesn't matter one way or the other. i really am not arguing one side or another as far as what they "should" do - I wouldn't presume to know! I think the do fine without my advise!

1st.. you've obviously never seen me angree.. there's a big difference
2nd.. I think I quoted to the wrong post
3rd.. yes you have the right to ask that.. I was replying to people who say Propellerheads HAS TO SUPPORT VST.. which is of course bullshit because PH don't have to do anything they don't want just because some people ask for it
to be honest, I think releasing some of their synths as VST is not a bad idea at all
so.. sorry for giving you the wrong idea, I'll be more carefull quoting the next time

unfortunately, there won't be no reason 3 I think since they abandoned reason 2. THERE'S NEED FOR A DECENT 303 EMULATION WHICH DOESN'T EXIST ATM
