ReaComp vs DC8C 2

ReaComp is a very good compressor.
Since I got DC8C 2, I kinda use it exclusively.
DC8C sounds better at some "tighter" settings and it's more flexible.
Both are good "go-to" compressors IMO.

DC8C 2 has a bit more features than ReaComp (for example negative ratio) as well as saturation modes for some coloring.
But for "clean" compression ReaComp is pretty good, and it's absolutely cpu-friendly.

Can you tell me something about saturation modes? Are those just (wav) additions, or they're integrated in algorithm (modeled)? (of course they can be convoluted irs, so we'll never know exactly...)
And of course, how they sound?
Second: did you find really useful anything that concers those "pervert" options (diff. curve settings, negative ratios, etc.)?
Btw, just looking in specs, it seems that DC8C 2 can do anything... So, I would like to found out about it more, from the "real world" feedback. ReaComp served me too well with its numerous options, and this is the first time I look into something new, and (at least in technical terms, "on paper") more powerfull.

I just had a very quick look at DC8C 2, I don't own it... I'm still thinking about buying it some time but at the moment I don't need it that urgently.zorniko wrote:Thinking the same...Tricky-Loops wrote:DC8C 2 has a bit more features than ReaComp (for example negative ratio) as well as saturation modes for some coloring.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the saturation modes are mathematical algorithms and not convoluted IRs...

A compressor is only as powerful as the one using it.
If you know how to use the additional features in DC8C, and how to effectively apply these functions, then the DC8C will probably be the more interesting option.
Many people jizz over saturation modes, compression curves, blablabla ... but how many can actually really hear those fine details in a complete and complex mix, especially when they squash and distort every nuance of detail out of it with a master limiter...
So if you're just looking for a decent compressor, ReaComp is flexible and transparent and free. Definitely one of the better options out there.

Main difference is in my opinion that DC8C has more character as Reacomp is more transparent, although DC8C can do transparent too.

Yes, I use Reacomp for utility stuff and DC8C when I want a more characterful thing.

it's a bit pointless to compare ReaComp with DC8C. DC8C is kind of a superset of ReaComp - it can do everything ReaComp can, and more. ReaComp is awesome, but it doesn't have saturation, program dependency, different attack and release curves, negative ratios, and all that other stuff that DC8C has. i kind of do the same as Rah - i use ReaComp only when i need precise adjustments, mainly for sidechaining, and i use DC8C everywhere else (if i don't use any other comp).
from my point of view, adjustable program dependency is the single best aspect of DC8C.

Integrated scripting possibility in Reaper can provide this and many other options, for example: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=101090Burillo wrote:from my point of view, adjustable program dependency is the single best aspect of DC8C.

well, to be honest, i fiddle with scripting enough at my day job, i'd rather pay a few bucks and get a plugin that does it for mezorniko wrote:Integrated scripting possibility in Reaper can provide this and many other options, for example: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=101090Burillo wrote:from my point of view, adjustable program dependency is the single best aspect of DC8C.
