No doubt the tune is fun and technically flawless, but I was hesitant to score it higher than I did because I heard it with the previous synth, it was entered and soon withdrawn last month and according to my understanding of the rules, tunes should be original and created for the event. New month, new synth, new tune.

I'm unsure if I should even post this as I doubt any will question why I scored a good song a 3, but there is the reason.

Weird... yeah tunes should be made specifically for this.

Thanks BJ! Wasn't sure how well the track would do because not everyone has NES nostalgia. Glad a few people really liked it though. With all the good feedback on soundcloud it got my hopes up of making top 5 but I guess not

. I'm gonna have to start confining myself to 1975-1985 era Kraftwerk / Jarre / acoustic tracks to have any chance here, those are the only type songs that consistently do well it seems!

Robert, maybe you're thinking of the first, 1:30min version I posted earlier in the month, then replaced with the longer 3:00 min final? They were both Mono/Fury though - didn't do any NES stuff with MauSynth, that contest was already well into voting.

Anyway congrats to the winners - as always, some really impressive work.

Hey, also some other types too: Dubstep, Trance, and modern chillout have also won. And don't forget Zubstep.

If you look through past winners, there are some pretty clear characteristics throughout, most of which transcend genre, so don't worry.

Yeah - I'm being a little cranky and sarcastic

. There's definitely a pretty wide spectrum in the past winners. And I'm a Jarre / Kraftwerk era fan too.

Amazing tune, indeed! Reminded me of some good old Falcom games OSTs, such as Dragon Slayer IV, Sorcerian and the superb YS saga.

Yeah agree the chip tune was well done, but I think it's common knowledge that some have problems with that genre, in the same way that most have difficulty with for example 12-Tone music. Again it comes down to the different criteria people use to vote which seems on the whole to be about the total package where even stuff like track length is a factor.

Kudos to Cactoos for the excellent track -- I remember seeing the track title "Such a Bastard" and thinking to myself that it just might be one of those tunes I would not appreciate -- so glad my initial thoughts were way off -- it turned out to be one of my favorites, and it just edged past another of my favorite tracks: Brian's excellent (and whacky-themed) "Pancake Delorean Invasion".

Congratulations to all entrants -- quite a few gems in there: a case in point, "NES Fury". I agree with Brian that this chiptune was a work of art. I also agree with V'ger that the chiptune genre (on full display here) is similar to twelve tone music in that it is an acquired taste for some folks.

The artwork for another favorite track of mine, Yeager's "10 Grams", was a clever little pun ("Tangrams" vs. "Ten Grams") -- and I dig puzzles.

I look forward to hearing everyone's submissions for this month's One-Synth-Challenge! I predict that there will be a rich variety of styles to enjoy.
