Nice work Justin! And this is gonna be great to watch some video of the Nektar integration (Kinda cool BW is doing their own thing with it,that should mean excellent).I bought the board earlier this year, been using it in S1,but truly bought it for the BWS integration I saw in a video with one of the BITWIG guys. A really excellent controller, and the BW daw just seems to make it all one happy family.

Bitwig did cat-egorically state that it will be arriving this year on a recent tweet:

"No, actually we said in the videos we would like to release end of summer, but def. this year. this has not changed!"

So we will all definitely be playing around with BWS by Christmas, or some heads are gonna roll :)

EDIT

Damn, didn't work. Oh well

Well I've to say that I'm dwelling on promised features to work, but the GUI definitely looks worst of almost all major DAWs.
If you have to edit a lot of midi by hand, I can tell you that piano roll will gonna suck just by looking at it., without ever having used it.
Best piano roll is in Logic for me even since version 5 to 9, great for editing with mouse, how else, one click operations just brilliant, in second place would be FlStudio, though apart from piano roll everything just sucks in it.
Sonar,s notes feedback just killing me.
Back to bitwig, piano roll looks like another sh***y ableton knock off
Yes I'm aware like everybody else about notes expression and things like that, I just hope that in real usage piano roll won't gonna be a PITA.
Here's a video, replace words concord and lady with bitwig
Basically a guy in that video is bulling forum moderators to allow posting cats.

Question for the betatesters: Is there a way to do Sampler 128s like in Ableton?

thanx,

Not exactly sure what you are asking? Can you elaborate?

But as far as the sampler goes - here's a screenshot of the "full sampler" as opposed to the small, Simpler-like one-shot version:

Image

Rightclick -> Open Image (or similar command) to see it in full resolution.

In this case it's a Rhodes from the factory content (a quite lovely one) with four velocity layers.
AFAIK there's no velocity blending yet and no round robin but for an integrated instrument it looks great to me.
Very clearly laid out.

On the right you can see that when selecting a device the browser shows all available presets for it (and you can search for both instrument/effect- as well as preset names

The browser doesn't show tags (yet?), but if you look at the device you can see, that there's also a preset selector with fields for Category (Bass, Mallets, Keys...) and Author.
You can save presets with the folder icon (which opens the tagging tool shown previously in this thread so you don't forget it ;-) ) and step through presets with the arrows.

BTW. A nice feature I learned about recently is that not only you have a play button on every sample/clip in the browser on rollover (which is IMO better than an autoplay (which is also available) since you can preview selectively with the same mouseclick you use to select the sample) but also you can go up and down with the arrows and the right-arrow plays the sample. Nice!

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks Tom for uploading the image. Looks very interesting indeed!

Sampler 128's is a system in which you make 128 layers in Live's Sampler and then switch between them with a selector knob or slider.

In the video link below you can see Ill Gates, who invented this technique, demonstrate the concept. (the hands-on demo starts at 5:00)

I don't think so.

You can very easily drag a bunch of samples from the Bitwig Browser and drop them into the sample area. Depending on where you drop them (higher or lower in the window) they get more or less far spread out - with visual preview. This way you could easily drop 128 samples over the whole Midi Keyrange, but as far as I can see there is no concept like the selector in the video.

You also can't modulate start and end points ATM, although I just tested to drag the loop in and out points around with the mouse while playing the note and that works very well and sounds smooth, so I can imagine that those finer points may come later.

For the moment, it looks like a very nice bread and butter sampler that you can use in a minute.

Cheers,

Tom
