I had Nectar one but I really was not so happy with results I got with it. I tested the Nectar 2 and upgraded. I feel that workflow and soundquality has improved in every area. Now it seems to be everything I hoped from Nectar 1.

I ended up to upgrading to production suite even I feel that I dont need breath control or pitchcorrection plugins (difference was only 20e). I just hope that they will add mode modules to suite later

It seems to eat little bit more CPU than version 1 but not much (in fast test). Only problem I had was with breathcontrol plugin, the latency with it was very big (FL and old dualcore).

A "vocal" plugin alright, but as far as I can see, there is nothing inherently wrong with Nectar that should prevent most of its features to be used with any other instrument.

1. Anybody using Nectar for other instruments than vocals? Any thoughts about this?

2. It seems Nectar 2 has some overlapping with Alloy 2, except for transient shaping and that Alloy is cheaper. So if you already have/don't want a transient shaper and you will have to chose between Nectar and Alloy for an allround EQ/compressor/effects strip, and you have the money, I guess you should go with Nectar. Any thoughts?

To answer your questions.

1. Sure Nectar can be used on other instruments besides voice, "if it sounds good it is good", regardless of what purpose a plugin was intended to have use it where it works.

2. Sure there is overlap with Alloy and Nectar, heck there is overlap with alot of Izotope plugins but the differences between them make it worth buying each and the overlap can prevent you from needing several other Izotope plugins when mixing. Nectar is far more feature rich than Alloy and the better bargain by far if you don't need the exclusive features of Alloy (transient-designer, can be seen on Ozone's meter bridge, and i think it's designed to be more cpu efficient and low-latency). I think in terms of bang-for-the-buck ratio Nectar may well be Izotope's greatest creation. And that's saying alot when looking at Ozone 5 Advanced wich is a highly sophisticated and deep plugin that has a hell-of-alot of modules/features (More than Nectar but the price is alot more also). When looking at maximum features for minimum dollars with high soundquality Nectar 2 may be king out here. You get compressor, delay, reverb, EQ, gate, saturation, Pitch correction, Pitch editor, Creative FX (wich has many sub-modules i.e. Flanger, Phaser, Chorus, Echo, Distortion, shred), Harmonizer, de-esser, limiter, breath control. I don't think Nectar 2 has as much as Ozone 5 Advanced and certainly does not have the comprehensive set of parameter controls for its overlapping modules that Ozone 5 Advanced has but what you get for the money Nectar 2 may be king. It seems Izotope may have gone bonkers when developing Nectar 2 cause it offers so much for so little. The good news is we can benifit from their temporary lapse in sanity

Nectar has some overlap with other Izotope plugins but it does alot that the rest don't do e.g. Creative-FX, harmonizer, etc and the modeled plate 140 in Nectar is better than Ozone's reverbs in a significant way IMV. And most of Nectar modules are also included in one plugin wich has the Izotope hallmark all-in-one plugin concept. Similar in some ways to other Izotope plugins but vastly different overall. Nectar is its own beast, and a man amongs boys out here.

When looking at 'intrinsic value' Nectar 2 is the plugin to beat out here now IMO, and gets the 'Plugin of the year award' in my book. All according to my taste and view of course.

Looking at the upgrade prices, I'm somewhat surprised they decided to go for the pro/standard approach.

Me too but I gotta say, I enjoyed it a lot more than the official iZotope Videos.

Ouch, that sounds terrible, maybe they should add even more compression on everything, then more multiband compression on the Mix and more Maximizer destruction on the compressed Mix and more multiband compression in the Mastering and more multiband maximization in the Post-Mastering Mix, then send it all through more saturation and distortion and add more high frequenies too after that.

Tried it today and am pretty impressed... Didn't like Nektar 1 at all.

The harmoniser works surprisingly well, I didn't try it with midi (which apparently doesn't work with Logic anyway)' just in the key mode. I have Melodyne and Vielklang and have to say that Nektar 2 is great because it's so easy to use (in comparison) when trying to find harmonies quickly.

I found with Nektar 1 the vocals generally a little too brittle and harsh sounding whereas 2 also does warm:) Presets are good and it's easy to tweak. All in all a great update.

Most likely I will upgrade later this week but how is the automatic pitch detection, Nectar 1 was dismal with that?
