If I were Sonar user, I'd be quite happy right now, I mean, they have focused on stability, that thing is clear - and are moving forward with planned updates in the pipeline. Life is good, no?

I know that those users whom the bugs are affecting may not agree with me but I will say that for the most part, the bugs being fixed now are pretty much for specific hardware/software VSTs that are causing some issues. X3 is by far, the most stable version of SONAR since back in the real OLD days (pre 2000).
It is a pleasure to use SONAR again.

So what's changed your attitude in a week's time (Especially, since you admit, that you're not even a Sonar user)?Tronam wrote:The cake is a lie.

Right you are (I had to look it up... Wasn't even familiar with the term -- thought it might be a musical group).Gonga wrote:

Sonar X3 + JBridge is working well for me, I had just upgraded 2 weeks before it came out and they made me pay to upgrade again so I am not very happy with Cakewalk's customer service and policies (oh well, shit happens).
My main stability issues seem to be with 32bit synths and effects, however JBridge has all but eliminated this problem for me...

Technically, I'm still a Sonar 3 Producer licensee.
When I switched to MacOSX as my main system years back, it was one of the products I had to leave behind. I had used Cakewalk 8 and 9 before that and did quite a bit of work in Sonar in the early 2000s.

Crash was reported for X1b about 2 years ago.
I have paid for X2 upgrade about 1 year ago. Crash was not fixed.
Crash was fixed in X3b update (Resolved a crash when using direct MIDI output with multiple VST Instruments simultaneously, such as multiple instances of JamStix or Catanya (CWBRN-5781, CWBRN-2504, CWBRN-2564, CWBRN-1739))
Question:
Why I must pay again?

Short answer - because they get away with it. And all software companies get away with this.krandr wrote: Crash was fixed in X3b update (Resolved a crash when using direct MIDI output with multiple VST Instruments simultaneously, such as multiple instances of JamStix or Catanya (CWBRN-5781, CWBRN-2504, CWBRN-2564, CWBRN-1739))

We consumers are to blame that we accept software that is not fully functional as specified.
A car company and most productmarkets would never get away with that - but software do.
Even consumer rights associations seem to accept this.
So it's common practise to accept bugs as features to live with.
And the next question would be - why should you not pay for the new features and extensions of X3. What we can expect is updates and maintenance on a release until it works.
And last, Cakewalk has suffered from not fixing bugs to consumer liking, and loosing updates - and now they were sold to Gibson, probably cheap because of reduced consumer base.
They missed 5 updates of Sonar from me because of bugs not fixed - take another 100,000 times or so and they loose plenty money over this.
But I'm a happy camper now with X3 basic - whatever else to say Cakewalk has reasonable upgrade costs. Some new energy in Cake camp as I see it.

I was very disappointed when I noticed that Cakewalk wasn't going to fix X2's bugs even I was still using X1. I was thinking about upgrading, but decided not to. I simply felt like Cakewalk betrayed their customers.lfm wrote:Short answer - because they get away with it. And all software companies get away with this.

I might upgrade X1 to X3 but they're not offering me a sensible solution. Why? Because Basic doesn't have ProChannel (I have purchased every PC module) and Producer comes with all those third party plug-ins I don't need - and I'm not gonna pay for those to get ProChannel. I know it's a hell of a good deal for those who do not have lots of plug-ins, but for those who have enough or too much plug-ins already... well...
Optimal number of audio plugins is one more than you currently have.

If you consider that Addictive Drums is 179,00$ at regular price, and that the Producer upgrade is 149,99$, I should say that with the extra content the upgrade pays itself..
Since I already have Addictive Drums, which is a very high quality product, I will sell the second serial number I get to reduce the price of the upgrade to X3 when I decide to upgrade..
