Isn't synth1 vst only, as is MUX? Neither will work in Logic, which is AU-only.
OP is using Logic and Reason.
My votes are for any Rob Papen synth—Predator probably is ideal, but all come with a ton of useable presets—or Zebra, for which many good banks are available.

Well, I have Live as well (but possibly not for much longer) and I even have a copy of Reaper.wesleyt wrote:Isn't synth1 vst only, as is MUX? Neither will work in Logic, which is AU-only.

But yes, I'd prefer AU to keep my options open

I have those three as well, so I stick to AUs. I don't get along well with Reaper though. Logic is my main workhorse; I use Live more for sound design and experimentation.spaceman wrote:Well, I have Live as well (but possibly not for much longer) and I even have a copy of Reaper.wesleyt wrote:Isn't synth1 vst only, as is MUX? Though loving Omnisphere (and have still not touched every preset) I find myself tweaking the patches quite often. To my taste most of the time they're too loaded with FX or sonic broadness.

I believe Massive preset libraries only work with Massive (or Maschine).
Sorry, I couldn't resist...

If symphonic is a big part of the equation and you have plenty of $$$$
East West
Project Sam
since you are mac click on the mac logo in the ranks. Here is a link to the mac rankings of top 50 most popular synths for MAC

basic to every system I would get this first and before blowing a lot on symphonic stuff. If you play guitar as well like I do you need amplitube and guitar rig so getting
NI Komplete
the IK total studio 3 ( which includes all 5 of the synths they have including the miroslav symphonic library)makes really good sense.
Korg legacy colection,
Synthmaster,
Minimonsta from G Force.
can't get enough moog sounds so also get Arturias collection of all of their historical modeled synths,
then Sonic projects OPX PRO II is a must as well but it looks to be a special case since you have to jump through some hoops to use it on a mac.
I would then snag Zebra and add the HZ Dark Zebra package.

There are tons of useable refills for Reason. Some of them are even for free like eXode's Massive Synthesis Refill. If you use RE synths there are even more. E.g. The PX7 can load DX7 presets, so there are literally countless presets for it. IMHO no need to look any further.spaceman wrote: I'm not sure what my best option is.. either get presets for synths I have, which currently pretty much means synths that come with Logic or refills for Reason, or get one good bread and butter synth with a shedload of presets available.

EDIT: I see your on a Mac.... Synth1 can do that too
