You broke the voting rule. (Max 1 point to your own entry)

God damn, I guess I miss that! Have just reviewed the scores and seen that I have only one point, did you decrease that for me?
I didn't make such mistake last times. But this time - I screwed up. It's becouse my voting system, I give all entrants 3 points, and than I change it depending on whether I like it or no. Must be tired that time and missed my name (

Ok, should be more attentiv next times.
Or I can not take part anymore from now?
I think voting system is great, though.

Yes it was changed.
Shame if it was just a wrong click, but as the principle of voting for yourself is quite unsporting it must be reacted upon regardless.
You are of course welcome to join for any other competitions, this was just for OSC 56.

This part should almost be automated, not sure if the voting platform supports this.V'ger wrote:Yes it was changed.

But next to the rules... I think there needs to be some redefinition, by all means, feel free to dispute my philosophy for these challenges. I think the list of allowed effects needs to be more clear.
Particularly:
I still see various people using overdrive, distortion, fuzz, amp effects, even vocalizer on their entries. This defeats the purpose of sound design aspect. Anything you plug into a distortion fx will sound pretty much the same with very subtle differences. Half of the time, these type of effects does a 180 from the sound. You can argue that you can just use a small amount but it's easier to just disallow these."Any effect that transform the sounds to make them unrecognizable as being from the synth is not allowed."
I've entered this competition twice before, and my own interpretation of the above rule is:
Equalizer, Basic Filters, Reverb, Delays, Maximizer/Limiter, Compressors
You can also argue that with the right Limiter/Compressor usage, you can simulate distortion effects, but that's part of the challenge, especially if you can do it from within the synth. And I have seen this done before.
My two cents...

Agree distortion should be reconsidered, will include in next rules vote. The dilemma is that I guess saturation is almost as common as EQ on the master channel (and elsewhere) and the distinction between that and distortion is not too obvious.
Also, whenever there is a vote on effects usage, people generally agree not to be too limiting as I guess we all want nice sounding mixes, so the general 'don't go overboard' rule has seemed the best compromise solution so far (outside modulation FX of course).

I always thought that's why it's fun and challenging to limit to the few effects, stays away from your typical mixing style.V'ger wrote:Agree distortion should be reconsidered, will include in next rules vote. Kraftraum, you're next.
It's been well over a week now and still no word from Kraftraum so I guess something's up or he's not much into prizes, but will wait till the end of the month for fairness sake and then you can choose Ctx. Appreciate your patience._ctx wrote:BTW: were is kraftraum? I am sooo curious which price he will choose...

A good choice, I believe you'll be amazed at the difference between Rob's sounds and most others, he really nailed Dune in my opinion, seemed his style suited its sound particularly well.
So Ctx, what will be your prize?

Note:
After several thought out comments on this (thanks guys), I see this heavy handed penalty is not in One-Synth-Challenge spirit or tradition when the rule breaks were likely not entirely intentional and especially as there is a nice solution of just manually resetting the offending votes, so DQs reverted.V'ger wrote:Offenders disqualified (DQ) in the results list but their points given to others still stand.
