So where are the best places to sell my iPad 1st gen and 2?
You know, trusted places that will give a reasonable price.
I believe Target will buy my iPad2(wifi) for about $150 right now.
I bet selling local is gonna be the best return on investment though.

I am going for the Mini retina. I have longed for a little smaller and more handy iPad but the first iPad mini was not worth the upgrade of my iPad 2. A mini 2 with a7 processor, now that is another story.

I like the new iPads too, especially how the mini is now a viable option as it is no longer stunted by the diminutive resolution of its first incarnation.
I have also been seriously considering using an iPad as a midi controller, looking a bit at Midi Designer every now and again. I am seriously lacking knobs and sliders in my setup, and I like the idea of not having to get the limits of hardware control surfaces. Also, considering the price of good knob controllers, an Air or a Mini doesn't seem that expensive anymore.
I'd also want to use it for other things, like reading books, listening to music, though not so much for creating music directly on it, though I know there are some nifty apps for that. I just don't think those apps can match some of the ones I have on my PC, and so it would feel a bit like a downgrade in that sense.
Still, apps tend to be cheap compared to fully-fledged PC/Mac programs, though, so I guess there's no excuse for not getting at least something to play with for long journeys.
I am leaning towards the mini. As much as I'd love the larger screen of the Air, the portability and handy size of the Mini is attractive to me. I am used to reading Kindle books on my phone and even browsing the internet on it, so a Mini would be huge in comparison...

To me, Apple just made music production even more fun on the iPads with these latest releases. You can't go wrong with either the Mini or Air now. I have had a terrific time with the iPad 4 and now the Mini will improve upon that. A lot of the decision comes down to size now. Can you handle the smaller size or prefer the larger screen?
For me, I prefer the larger screen. So the new smaller form factor and lighter weight of the Air is extremely compelling to me. Though, having an iPad 4 already, the Mini is a beautiful second device for focusing on synths. YES!!!! To have two Alchemy Mobiles and layer them!!!! Plus, there are some apps I find just don't play well together with Background Audio turned on. So to separate those apps on different iPads will help resolve that issue.
In the end, I have no plans to update/upgrade. My wife got me the 4 last year (I previously had the original 1st Gen) and she has been wanting a new computer for months (her Mac is from 2006 or 2007 and is having issues).

it's all too easy to justify another ipad when all these great midi controllers are out there for it. You could easily make use of 3 at the same time!
However I gave up on any full music creation within the ipad, pretty much because of how files don't get shared and are per app. this is just the craziest thing to me still. Why would anything be made to be so inefficient.
Has there been any changes with this? Are there easy ways for example to load the samples from Alchmy into the GarageBand sampler or into BeatMaker or something? I can't imagine loading in some of my drum samples and whatnot if I only get one app. Basically tha means you have to pick an app and stick to it for anything where you might want a bit of a sample library. There's inter app audio now, what about interapp file sharing? Has this been resolved?

Only if apps support the "open in" protocol. Not sure what music apps do, I use it a lot with things like pdfs but not tried with wavs etc.Echoes in the Attic wrote:There's inter app audio now, what about interapp file sharing? Has this been resolved?

It is still the case where each app must maintain its own set of files. No sharing of WAV/Samples, for example. Each app must have its own WAV/Sample file so you will get duplicate files all over the place.

This right here makes the iPad a terrible platform for music making unless you're into all synth based stuff or are dedicated to one app that accesses samples. Shame. Music aside, it's just a terrible way to manage files.iPlogger wrote:It is still the case where each app must maintain its own set of files. No sharing of WAV/Samples, for example. Obviously still a fantastic web device and music controller though.

Yep. Most people probably agree it's not a good file management system. Personally, it hasn't been much of an issue for me. But things like copying audio will generate a WAV file in the app, then pasting will produce the same WAV in the pasted app. So I have all these extraneous duplicate WAV files scattered about.
But I probably work differently from you as I don't really do much with raw samples. For example, I wouldn't take the Alchemy samples and use them in another program. I just leave them in Alchemy and use them specifically within that app.

I'm wanting to get the iPad mini 2 because of the compact size factor plus the A7 processor. I already own the original iPad mini and its great to use, small but still has enough screen space but hell to use when it comes to Inter-App Audio because of the crappy A5 processor.
However I have been reading that the iPad mini 2 won't get fully released until the first quarter of 2014. I don't know whether to wait that length of time or just go for the iPad Air when its released on November 1.
I am really looking forward to those new iPads as using Inter-App Audio on the original iPad mini and iPad 2 is useless as there is audio breakup even with using just one synth.
