With hip hop, it's best to not mention software at all. With each new joke of a "net producer" it gets worse. People associate software with what's circulating on the internet. Reason, has broken through on the other hand. Fruity Loops, not even that it sounds "gay", but it simply that it sounds childish and toyish and unprofessional, will always be difficult for the hip hop crowd. The hip hop crowd is completely about presenting an image of coolness, strength, hardness, and toughness. Fruity Loops completely goes against that grain. I don't believe that FL Studio was a big enough change to help this situation because everyone still calls it Fruity Loops. Even Sam Ash, Guitar Center, and Cakewalk still call it Fruity Loops when referring to FL Studio sometimes. The fact that it's one of the best programs for making hip hop is completely missed because people can't be "caught" using it. But I guess 9th did help when he got put on.

If FL does not include loop record soon, sony(acid) or someone else with it may patent it and then FL will never have it. :D

Remember, the beats for Jay-Z's Kick That Dirt Off Your Shoulder were made with FL Studio. :)

And BTW, it's only the matter of time before FL Studio becomes the hip-hop standard software right up there with Reason. :D

lol, I'm sure someone already patented it, several times. Everything's patented.

9th
we must thank this guy because he indeed changed lots of things in the way FL is considered. In a way, it's sad, but anyway..

I've had exchanges with Gol about this and he vehemently disagrees with the notion that the name is important
The main problem with the Fruityloops name was the fact that it implies you are using 'loops' to compose music (as in Acid, EJay, ...) so people think you're not a musician.

The other problems were the 'Fruity' part that scared away all homophobes and the fact that Kelloggs is after us since we got the 'Fruityloops' trademark in Europe.

I've been making electronic music of many types for near 15 years now, and most of that using computers. I started with C-lab Creator (I still wish that they would port that to PC and add VSTi support... don't even bother saying "Logic" to me, it is not even close!!) and for a long time I felt like I should be looking for a more "serious" or "professional" environment. What can I say? I was wrong. It took me a while but I finally realized that there really is nothing I can't do in FL, and most times do it twice as fast. With EXT on top of FL, fuckit, I'm set! Really, when you think of it, FL is close to a thousand times as powerful as what we were all using just ten years ago. If I made good music back then, f**k knows I should be able to now!!!

That being said, Muzys is another app that should be taken more seriously... well, if it ever comes back! Funny, that started as an Atari app and using it is one of the closest experiences I have had to using Creator (if it had VST and stuff.)
As far as Cubase, and those "big ones" - sonar, logic, whatever - The only one like that I have found that really feels like music rather than accounting is Podium.
Anyway, blah blah blah...
I can't even remember why I posted, for christ sake!! hahahah
Thanx for everyting, Fruity-people!

I dig FL because it's extremely intuitive and it can give me a sound that no other host can. I like a raw rock sound with alot of dirt n' distortion thrown in when you just crank up till everythings in the red. Actually I stayed with FL 3.5 cuz I didn't like the sound in FLS4. Too clean, well produced and Logic-like. YUK! It sounded like shit when gave my tracks a go. No round warm analog-like drive sound just annoying digital ffzzzzzzzz-distortion!!!
Anyway actually I've developed some sort of bizarre liking for telling people (when the tech nerds ask) that I'm doing my stuff in an outdated version of FL...or maybe it's just because I find it hilarious to see how far beneath the floorboards their jaws drop

ROCK!

ps. I only use FL with wav samples and VST/VSTi/DX. Never got into MIDI. Heard it was a mess so I stopped right there :D

Gol or JMC,
Is there a reason you guys are dodging the "Loop Record" feature requests? It really is a HUGE time saving feature. I've read sooo many requests, and yet haven't heard a single reason it's not being implemented.
Can we be enlightened on this mysterious topic?
Thanks!

I thought I'd chime in by saying that I'm totally choked by the current state of affairs of this app. It was far from perfect, but maaaan in terms of composing and arranging with midi, built in sampling and beat slicing, built in audio editing, and of course the fantastic muzynth, I haven't found anything that comes close. It seems muzys is all but dead, so I think devs should take a close look at this app and see how the can apply some bloody innovative features in their own projects.

*edit* sorry to threadjack.

we're not dodging anything, it has been covered to death and no one likes answering the same question all the time

I have tested Sonar, Cubase and FL and at last I have decided to buy FL. It has an easy, beautiful design and it's really easy to compose with it. And I am really surprized, that i have only used 30% of the possibilities and i get so good results.

The only minus point is the automation. I have a hard time to understand how to use it. Documentation about that point isn't really amazing. For me as a simple user, I have thought that it would work that way:

I can add/edit an eventenvelope. I do a connect with a button or an VST-Feature. I put it into the pattern list.

But that doesn't seem to be the right way. But I think: If time goes, better things will come...

So: I like to work with FL anyways. Cheers to the developers and especially to the designer of FL.

:)

My Little gift to Gol & Jean & the team (and any other FL Studio users who want to use it).

Download and paste it into your FLStudio/Artwork/Skins/Default dir and have a "Really Obvious" record button light up so you don't screw up and forget you are in record mode a zillion times like I have done...
