But seriously. I'm fairly happy. A few bits of hardware on the horizon, but my software feels fairly complete now, unless something amazing comes around.

I got enough basic synths I think, but no granular though and no resynthesis so iris and/or alchemy would be good, but I don't wanna spend that much. I already have synthmaster so maybe synthmaster 3 when it comes out will cover both of those. A purely additive synth like harmor might be nice although don't know much about programming additive. A good sampled piano and some decent electronic drums like in battery I could use also mayy end up getting komplete unless I find cheaper alternatives to both of those.

There's nothing wrong with holding on to stuff and tucking it away. Think of it like an attic that you may decided to explore again one day and all the treasure you'll find.

For me, it's more a case of "You have enough stuff, now makes use of it!" than i'm really happy with what i got.

Not that i'd be unhappy with it, some good stuff... and i'll probably be able to make any sound i can imagine with it. Just got to put a piece together now one day.

I used to have two main hobbies. Playing music and collecting software and gear. The two are connected but I thought of them as very separate hobbies. I'd buy a plug in even if I just got a dozen or so uses out of it and made some fun sounds just because I thought of it in the same way a wine collector would buy a case of wine. (I only buy a bottle at a time of the cheap stuff

)

Now things are different. With the birth of our first child, a wildcat of a little girl, I found my time and even my desire to spend a lot of time in my studio a lot lower than before. I was frustrated at first trying to keep both my hobbies intact... but then I realized that it had to be a "Sophie's Choice" situation. Of course, the collecting part got the axe. I need money for a new work computer (I like to keep my work and play computers separate) anyway and the amount of software I have is a little disgusting even to me.

My hardware isn't what people would consider high end, but it's good enough for me.

So to answer the question, yeah, I'm very satisfied.

I was happy with my arsenal and I thought I'd buy something only if I really liked it... but now I'm in the middle of a g.a.s. attack, I'd like to change my soundcard (but I think I won't any soon, because of the price of what I want) and I want to buy a few hardware synths (these have an higher priority than a new soundcard). I bought a Volca Beats and now I really want some hardware.

Addictive isn't it? I remember the excitement when I realized the quality of plug in instruments and effects had reached a level that was really good. I was a bit late to the game, but I sold off pretty much all my hardware.

In the end, I didn't miss any of it. (I did keep a ROMpler around to help my poor CPU in times of need) It was all VA anyway. When I got an analog (a lowly MoPho) I went through a total change and realized that some thoughtfully picked bits of gear could really flesh out my studio. I don't have anything really expensive, but I love it all.

I think I'm done though. Everything else I want I consider more money than I'm willing to pay for a hobby. I do have my eye on that knew Xenophone synth. Seems very full featured for the money. I don't have a three osc synth...

I'll have to see how it sounds, of course, and figure out what I could give up to fit it in my studio. That's the thing about hardware, it takes up physical space so you have to be careful.

I'm at a point where I'm examining what I need to let go of. They made me happy but I don't use them anymore and I think someone else would if I was more willing to pass them on.
Novation V-Station & Bass Station are at the top of that list. I realize I hold on to the V simply because of a handful of sounds I've been too lazy to recreate in the synths I do use. (I've never used the Bass-Station, but it came with the V). The same is becoming true for my HWr Radias.
I wonder if the software is even worth trying to sell and end up leaving it on the HDD rarely even opened. They don't make me unhappy, but I wonder if they would make someone else happier?
I wish I could find a way for some of this NFR stuff to get somewhere it could do more good than it does me.

What makes me the unhappiest is this concept of NFR or worse, not even allowed to give it away.

As for as software goes, I'm pretty happy with my setup: a few analog-sounding soft synths (Diva, Synth Squad, and SEM), and one or two good third-party plug-ins for each basic effect (Timeless for delay, ValhallaRoom for reverb, DC8C for compressor, etc.)

Good chorus and phaser plug-ins are the only things missing. I'm also looking at some more FabFilter stuff. That's about it.

For hardware/studio equipment, I should be focusing on getting my room treated, but I'm putting that off since I'm moving soon. Another (better) set of monitors would also be nice. I've been dreaming of a good 37-key midi controller with lots of knobs, but I don't think one exists.
