There's a nice variety of PX7 audio samples up on the Prop's soundcloud page. FM isn't usually known for its "warmth", but it doesn't always have to be edgy and harsh. I liked this patch example:

Here's an edgier example in more of a song context:

So to get this new synth, you'd have to buy a complete DAW ! lol

Thankfully something better is on the way in FM synthesis, and you don't have to buy a DAW to get it.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

The thread title kinda gives that away....and better FM synths have been around for years.

There's already plenty of excellent FM synths for all the plugin formats. This just happens to be one for Reason users. I don't think anyone in here was trying to imply that it was superior to others.

Its actually advertized as a DX7 emulation. That limits how you can judge it against other synths.

I never owned a DX7, so I can't speak to the faithfulness of the various emulations, but FM7 was always one of my favorite virtual synths. There's a certain Swedish conservatism about the PX7 that might border on overly faithful by today's standards, but I haven't tested it out for myself yet to see how it fares soundwise. My initial impression is that PX7 is to FM8 as TAL-BassLine-101 is to LuSH-101. PX7 might be most appealing to those who want their emulations as devotedly accurate as possible with few frills.

What happened to Reason's midi editing. It seems to have gotten a lot more complicated. I haven't used Reason in years and I was at a friend's studio and didn't recognize Reason.

Additive and FM sound so similar.

So PX7 has been surpassed?:

Zero Hybrid Synthesizer brings modern FM synthesis to the Reason rack. Featuring six operators with tons of waveform possibilities and a powerful algorithm matrix, you can create unique FM sounds not previously possible in Reason.

They say that this new synth "can create unique FM sounds not previously possible in Reason"

That means that it can do more/different stuff than previous FM synhts like PX7 right?
