The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

This is so sad and shocking. I loved his solo albums. For some reason, I never actually listened to the Velvet Underground until about two months ago, when I suddenly decided to listen to all their back catalog. They really made some tremendously groundbreaking music together.

You are in for a great ride. The first two albums, in particular, change and grow with repeated listening. It's taken me years to process them, and just when I think I fully get what they were doing, some seemingly new trend comes up in popular music that makes me re-orient myself to VU and realize that there was even more to them than I thought.

I hope that's no too over the top, but I'm feeling a lot of gratitude for Lou Reed right now and it's leading me to hyperbole.

WTF? I can't believe it. I thought we had finally defeated mortality. Evidently I was wrong.
