Sonar 3 Demo problem

I'm evaluating Sonar 3 and for some reason I can't get the demo to properly chase midi sync. It will start and stop fine but it won't chase the tempo properly, even though the tempo is set correct in both places.
Is this a limitation of the demo verison?
Also is there any metering for midi so when you are playing midi prior to recording you can see that it's receiving the signal?
Thanks!
Jho

I think the Demo is still based on V3, whilst the retail version is 3.11; its possible the sync stuff was updated. Cant check the readme's as to exactly what the update covered until tomorrow, though, sorry. Might be up on the CW site tho'.

hummm- with older versions of cakewalh products, it would put a little keyboard icon down in the system tray by the clock. there were 2 little red lights on the icon that would flash whenever midi was sent or received.
I have no clue about the midi chase

Time to ask the obvious-do you have it set up to sync to MIDI under options/project(at least that's where it is in 2.2-I'm still using that)?

I haven't had any problems in Sonar since I upgraded my RAM. Before that, I had a few sync glitches and freezes, but now no probs at all.j.ho wrote:Any Sonar heads aware of this midi sync tempo issue? Is it just with the demo?

I found the whole MIDI setup a bit confusing at first, I think it's best to read through the helpfiles again to make absolutely shure you've got the right settings

What are you trying to sync to,and with what gear?First off,you have 2 options in options/audio/advanced(trigger&freewheel and full chaselock)depending on your hardware, then there's more options in options/global/midi.Then there's the obvious(samplerates,master/slave ect.).Not sure if there's something crippled in the demo but I never had a problem syncing to a variety of gear with any version of Cakewalk/Sonar.j.ho wrote:Nah everything is set right

Cakewalk has had notoriously *good* midi timing since day one. I would say that if you are having midi timing issues its either - 1) your audio driver, and you have sonar set to chase your playback timing. 2) there may indeed be a bug with 3.00 demo 3) issue with the midi slave device.
I have neither of these problems in sonar 2.2. I used to use sonar to sync up with my Tr-808 via a midi-din sync. The manf of the sync box actually recommended cakewalk as one of the few vendors that sent a solid midi time code.
