Thanks, Ingo, but I am quite capable of reading the manual myself. ;)
I am more interested in someone's opinion who has actual experience with both units (I still own the first one). Clearly Pulse 2 has more features - but to me it seems the basic sound is the same...

I don't know what besides those features and the tons of informations you want to hear. It's still a Pulse butb with advanced features in almost all major parts including e.g. the oscillators and the filter, especially the fact that it is a mulimode filter. The two included analog drive circuits could have a big effect on the sound too.

Besides all those new features you could also import Pulse 1 Sysex bank files (like e.g. the free banks at the Waldorf website) directly.

Like Frederic (one of the developers) mentioned they tried to keep it as much compatible as possible to the Pulse 1 but they are not identical. The analog circuits are a new design too and they are done with SMD technology now (also see the pictures that were posted here).

yes the multimode filter, and the drive are the main things you would notice i think.

After updating to v1.12 my Pulse 2 MIDI via USB does not work.

[edit] Rolled back to 1.11 - MIDI via USB works again PHEW!!!!

P.S. I'm on OSX 10.8.5

Post

when i updated to v1.12 the Pulse 2 MIDI vanished from Live and were also not visible in SynnyS Pulse 2 editor. I restarted my machine, and rebooted the Pulse, but no dice. When I rolled back to v1.11 the Pulse 2 MIDI input and output were visible again in Live and the editor.

I too am having the USB Midi problem when updated to 1.12. Switching to a standard Midi cable input works fine. Roll back to 1.11 and USB works again. Whoops, Waldorf... time for a quick rev. 1.13.

Post

I have no problem with USB midi and v1.12

I have midi-through activated in my daw !

Same here....no issues whatsoever with Live 9 and the synnys editor with OS 1.12 (using USB midi). Running OSX 10.9

Ahhh, there's nothing like Waldorf and their bugs... Priceless. :)

lol, buy an analogue synth and do hi hats. Buy a drum kit and make basslines. ;)
dude, i can make a kick drum from the filter section of a delay plugin, but what's so funny about making a hi hat with an analog synth? Each time i buy a new synth, i make a track with nothing but that synth, it shows me what the synth can do. Besides, i like using analog synths to make drum sounds. I'm not a f**king folk singer.

Pity the Pulse 2 has no sine wave actually...
I do the same thing.

But I didn't say you shouldn't did I.

No you didn't. And sorry if i came off nasty or whatever. So difficult to convey tone through internet postings.

Next bug:

changing waveforms does'nt function under v1.12
with init sounds even not and with presets strange things happen...

Hi,

looks like there is a problem with OS 1.12 indeed and that is was officially published more or less "accidently". In fact this OS version still seems to be in beta stage.
At the download page the name was changed to "Pulse 2 Version 1.12 beta (Midifile Windows/Mac) final version is coming soon" now.

Please try to use OS v1.11 until a new official version is out.
after loading OS 1.11 again you should also do a filter auto-tuning.

It wasn't published " accidentally" - I was sent an email from Waldorf support telling me it was published, so it's not like someone pushed it live by mistake.

The reality is, Waldorf suck at firmware and they have done since at least the Blo - they really need to step up their efforts on this, clearly the beta testing is not comprehensive enough and their internal QA process has more holes than a Swiss cheese.

Yes, from Waldorf…
Thanks for the info.
Will see what happened. So far, please stay at v1.11.
I encourage anyone having problems with the Pulse 2 OS to send an email to Waldorf with a bit of info. They are very responsive and keen to get the bugs ironed out.

Thanks to all in this thread, I appreciate the help.

Actually it turned out this official version of 1.12 was still Beta and it was not supposed to be published as a "final" version. They already changed this at the download page.

Anyway the deveoplers and the tsters are doing their best currently and they are aware of the problems concerning OS 1.12. Besides that they semed to be on a good way with OS 1.11. I had created my presets with v1.07 and IMO it already worked nicely there. The problems is that every additional feature or improvement could lead to a new problem in another part which makes it difficult to achieve a totally bug free OS.
