Hi all
Is it just me who is very excited about the upcoming update of Genome?

http://www.whitenoiseaudio.com/2013/10/genome-status/

It seems like Genome now will become a daw with modular synth, sampler, drum machine and effects onboard:

•New track-based audio 'Racks' where you can add synthesizers, samplers and effects and hook them up however you like.
•Instrument modules include analog synths, drum machines and samplers. The drum machine includes some of the core parts of bleep!BOX.
•Effects include distortion, chorus, phaser etc.
•The sampler module uses the open SFZ sample format. It does not support 100% of the opcodes that SFZ includes, but the hope is that it can be expanded over time. I am also open sourcing the SFZ player module in the hopes that other developers can contribute code and to help promote the SFZ format. The code for this is located on Github.
•You can save presets for each instrument and effect
•Knob motions can be automated and recorded into your patterns using CC messages.
•Genome's internal instruments can be played using external MIDI input (ex. a keyboard or other apps)
•Audio output can be recorded to .WAV

Cool. Look forward to hear it.

As a genome owner who I would prefer it if he just concentrated on making it the best midi sequencer it can be and keep the modular synth as a separate app.

I already have loads of synth apps and memory on an ipad is always tight so keeping the sequencer slim in ram is appealing.

As I have a first generation iPad I also worry about the resources Genome may now demand, but hopefully he's taken that into account.

+1

I really don't want Genome to become another Tabletop. Keep it as is, a very versatile midi sequencer with a small footprint. And have the tabletop-ish app as a new app, I'm just gonna assume that all the extra synths and effects and whatever else will make it all a lot bigger and more resource hungry. Releasing it as an update actually forces me as a user to upgrade Genome into something completely different from what I originally purchased (there's no way to hide/remove updates from the AppStore app as far as I know so...). I'm sure it'll be awesome and all, but doing it as an "update" is the wrong way to do it IMO.

Well, it seems that he understand your worries according to this quote:
I know some people will be unhappy about Genome's expansion from being purely a MIDI sequencer to becoming a DAW. Rest assured that nothing is changing with the existing MIDI workflow and I will continue to add new features to the MIDI editor over time.
However, that does not necessarily solve any upcoming ram problems but it should be possible to keep it down as long as no instruments actually are used, shouldn't it?

To me there is fortunately no such thing like too many synth app, only too few money :)

well, I also think that it would be better to keep genome midi sequencer and genome modular as separate apps, but it is up to dev
