How many rows of clips can you use in session view? Are those called scenes? I read there's 8 scenes in intro .. does that mean 16x8 then?

Post

With the Lite version you can only have 4 rows of scenes and 4 VSTs... Intro upped that to 8 rows of scenes and the track count is 16. Which is enough to create a song needless to say. In my experience, Live on the Mac is not that efficient compared to Logic. So trying to do more than 8 scenes or even 10 tracks with VIs in the V7 era was a no go for me... That's why I gave up on it. I have a version of Lite which I keep messing with for R&D though. Been reviewing the new stuff lately so I thought I'd do intro and test again! :)

i meant in live 9 intro

Drumroll please... VST count is same as the tracks - 16! Yayyy! Not bad for $99.

But 8 scenes only. So there you go folks... I can see that 8 scenes is a little slim, from the Session standpoint but definitely enough to do a song... 16 tracks is plenty IMHO.

Yes that is definitely a YAyyy here too! :hihi:

I wonder if the APC edition will get a version 9 upgrade.. that one had 20 scenes max. hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Thank you again, DHR53, for testing this software and returning with the results.

Well, the reason why I was even interested, was my Lite version wasn't upgradable to anything but the Full version! Which was pissing me off... So, I guess I paid $99. to upgrade my Lite sort of. I really like Live, but the roots of linear sequencing run very deep with me and the lack of keyboard shortcuts and navigating always drove me nuts!

But I thought I'd give Live another go as I need to buy a new midi kybd. and I'm considering a Push... to go boldly into the future... Or something like that

Post

But PUSH comes with Intro 9... so you'll have TWO copies.. one for you and one to give your good buddy VitaminD :ud:

kidding..

I think though.. that is exactly why Ableton did that.. to get people off of Lite..

Post

You wont get a second though, or any at all if you already have an ableton license, i assume above a lite one. There isnt a separate serial in the box, only a push serial, and once you register they give you an intro license if you have nothing else

Post

Oh that is very useful information to me, ezelkow1. I was under the (false) impression they'd be providing a DVD with the software in the box with it's own separate key. But not so apparently.

Guess I won't wait for push users to start unloading their live Intro copies then.. :hihi:

I have to say after messing around with Intro a bit it's a better "Live" experience for me already. They've added a few things that are making things easier in session view, (Session record) and Ironically the 8 clip limit means I can max out the midi view so I can actually see what I'm doing... Nice! I also like that I can be previewing a midi part/clip and hit the command key for session record, and add/overdub to that clip or change it. Works pretty well. Drum racks are always pretty slick, and the cpu usage does not seem to be too bad with the internal instruments I've tested... next, VST and AUs.

I could use this... :)

Too low if you are using multi-track VSTi's

Thats why I bought Live 8 Intro before Live 9 out:
- unlimited midi tracks
- 64 audio tracks
- unlimited drum racks/tracks
- unlimited licensed instruments/tracks

But only 4 VSTi per project. Otherwise it is not a problem if you have NI Kore 2 :)

Forgive me for raising this thread from the grave, but I'm hoping someone can clarify whether Live 9 Intro has a hard limit of 16 VSTs or whether it's (theoretically) unlimited if/when using instrument racks...

I'm already have Ableton Live Lite 9.

Instruments count is unlimited if using instrument racks, but there are some new limitations:
1. Only one output of VSTi instrument can be used in the chain
2. Send/return FX channels are not supported in the instrument racks (only supported in the drum racks)
3. Midi note range becomes smaller (notes_count_per_VSTi=128/VSTi_count)

Thanks for replying, but it's specifically Intro I was asking about. Live Lite and Intro are, from what I understand, fairly different.

The basic difference is:
Lite 9 - 8 tracks per project
Intro 9 - 16 tracks per project.
