OP: i wouldn't get the most cheapest around.. make sure the plug part is firm preferable with springs so they can bend a lot without breaking the inner wiring.

Over short distances the cable quality won't affect the sound much.
Cheap cables won't last as long if you're regularly swapping them about so like someone else suggested it's best is to get some mid-priced cables that look well made.

I will repeat this one more time. I did a test some years ago with RMAA doing scientific measurements. I compared expensive balanced patch cables of just 1 meter with two flimsy pound-shop quality RCA-RCA cables 6 meters each (totals to 12 meters of bad cable for each channel) connected through 3 pairs of adapters (TRS-RCA, female-female RCA, RCA-TRS). The best speaker wiring I ever used, including in my studio of yore, was 14-gauge electrical wire. Matter-of-fact, the cables I'm using now are orange, 3-conductor power cable that I cut the electrical connectors off of 
What you want is quality 2-conductor, copper stranded wire, the lower the gauge the thicker and the less resistance to flow under load. Heavy gauge, like 12, is especially important live with high amperages and lots of power, and where wires get abused, but in the studio, even 18-gauge is likely sufficient. For 8" cones I stick with at least 16 gauge, and for subs or bass reflex designs and powerful amps go with 14-gauge or lower. You don't want shielded cable, unless the shield is for a balanced ground with two internal conductors, because that shield will pick up electrical signals.
