Indeed! I'd highly recommend to everyone who works with sound to get tested. Just see what's going on and get your baseline measurement as a reference point.
I've become so health conscious this year that I'm literally testing everything as a 'snapshot' of my body's state now, and in some areas I expect to improve, and others will deteriorate... but I have a 'complete physical' snapshot to use as a baseline for comparison.

Kinda like acoustic treatment for a room. Blast white noise at it, check the readout. Add treatment, blast white noise, compare readout, and so on...

Testing for anything can be scary, the unknown. But the knowing is actually a relief, because either you're fine, and if not, you then have an informed course of action you can take. And while that won't undo the damage, it will improve your quality of life and cause you to avoid anything that would cause further damage.

Just do it boys n girls!

High frequency hearing loss really worries me in regards to this lunatic hobby. A few months back I mentioned to my mom that the brakes in her car were squealing. This came as news to her; she couldn't hear it. The thought of putting out shitty mixes because I can't hear what's going on is kind of depressing.

BTW, my dad, an ex-trumpeter, now in his late 60's... his high frequency hearing is shot! I'm often astounded and concerned at what he can't hear!

He also used to fly light planes as a hobby in his 20's, 2-seater Cessnas and Cherokees, and that will fry your ears too. Now he can't tell if a Boeing is flying overhead or if someone has left a tap running at full ball! He hears some kind of whoosh and he's like 'what's that?' and runs outside to look for planes, and I'm like 'dad, it's just the tap in the kitchen'

Not too surprisingly he also has a significant loss at the specific frequency of my mom's voice. I envy him for that!

Ah, of course. If you'd said Ampex or Studer I would've made the connection. My knowledge and experience of high-end tape machines is non-existent, but at least my ears can appreciate the subtleties of Satin!
