First off, thank you SO much for this. I've read that some people got Komplete 8 to work on Vista, so I figured 9 would too.

Everything worked great for me except for getting the installer to run. I used the application verifier and changed the settings as instructed, but cannot get the main installer to run. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

First of all I would not recommend you to install the separate instruments using the installer from the first CD. It can be done, but you need to know the names of the installer files and enter them separately in the application verifier.

Use 7Zip to open the 1st/installer DVD. There you will find a sub directory called 'sub installers' which includes all setup EXE files. Now you have to add every one of them you wish to install to the application verifier.

In general, these are archive files which can be opened with 7Zip. They include an MSI, an EXE and a RES file (also a 'data' directory). Now, use the name of this EXE file in application verifier. Ie. 'Battery 4 Setup PC.exe' or 'Reaktor Prism Setup PC.exe'.

You can also use these separate installers to install them one-by-one or you can use the main installer on the first DVD.

And, use the 32bit application verifier on vista x64 as the installers seem to be 32bit; when using the 64bit one the installers do not start at all...

One problem, which I had and which is also described on my page is that I had problems when installing 32bit plugins and also 64bit ones at the same time. I got path not found errors with the installers. In this case simply click on ignore and copy the 64bit dll(s) later in your vst plugin directory (as described, find which one you need with EXE tool and copy it manually).

Hope this helps... ;)

Thank you. I'm sorry, I should have clarified why I wanted to install from the main installer.

I was already able to install everything I didn't have (like Monark, Transient Master, ect. I'm upgrading from K7)

The only problem I have is with Battery and Kontakt. The standalone players and VSTs installed perfectly (I put my VSTs on an external drive which may be why I didn't have the same problem there as you did.) However, the Battery and Kontakt libraries did not have an option to install the libraries. I'm guessing this is because that would be dictated by the main K9 installer.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you again.

Sure. But does the original installer on the first DVD fails to install the libraries?

Add 'Komplete 9 Setup PC.exe' to application verifier (x86 version) and start it from the DVD. It gives you a window where you can select between 'Applications', 'Content' and 'Plugin Types'. Deselect everything besides of 'Content' and install it from here.

I just reinstalled 'West Africa' library as a test (deselected everything besides of West Africa) and got a pupup : 'Please insert Kontakt Disc E'. I inserted this Disc and finished the installation successfully.

Thank you so much for your help. I figured out the problem: it's the application verifier. I wasn't able to install the 32 bit one. The popup message when I tried to said "the 32 bit is included in the 64 bit." I have no idea if I'm able to switch between the two in the verifier.

I tested this on my wife's laptop with XP and with the 32 bit verifier I was able to start the Komplete installation from the disc. I copied the 32 bit verifier from XP onto my Vista machine, but the installer wouldn't start at all with this.

How do you run the verifier in 32 bit? Or do you have an older version before MS updated it?

update:

Nevermind. I don't know what I did, but I got it to work.

Thank you so, so very much again for the tutorial and all your help.

Your're welcome.

I honestly don't know/understand why NI had to make it that difficult for us, end users.

They support windows 6.1 (consumer name: Windows 7 ;)) and upwards (6.2 -> consumer name: Windows 8 ) but dropped support for 6.0 (consumer name: Windows Vista) ; and this is not a technical limitation, only a decision made for the support department... ;)

Hi Paul,

it's been awhile since I wrote something here at KVR,
but I really had to chime in here - to say a BIG THANK YOU and to hug you
for your advice here !

As I'm currently wading through NI's latest big update round - this was a big timesaver !

Thanks for sharing your knowledge :tu:

Best,

Frank

I was wondering too, there doesn't seem to be a valid reason...

Well, it's NI... don't ask for a reason... :D

I'm glad that it helped you. Yes, it seems the only reason was to minimise their support staffs work. But it's a bit stange since the original product was advertised as supported on these OS-es (BTW, they did the same with their Komplete Audio interface).

Yeah, seems so...
But they said some things back then, which they don't won't know today about...
Anyway...

Actually I still have to find an application/plugin etc. , which would not run on my up-to-date Win Vista x64 system (with the only exception being the latest AD Dubstation plugin version - VST, which I consider being buggy...).
With your advice I was able to install all current NI updates in no time,
so...

Thanks again, mate - much appreciated ! :)
