So I figured out why my powerbook was so damn slow...

EnergySaver! Not a soul mentioned to look in the energy saver options. The culprit lay right there! A click on the options panel, and at the bottom it says "Processor Performance." It was set to automatic whether battery powered, or ac powered. Which equates to lovely cpu throttling. I set it to highest, and now things are much better. Cpu usage on that demo song in tracktion dropped from a peak 52% all the way down to a peak 34% ! MUCH BETTER! While the centrino still edges it out, this is much more along the lines of what I was expecting with regards to the performance from the 1.5Ghz. The interface is still a little laggy, but the performance is much better!

In any case, I'm just posting this in case anyone else runs into the same situation.
