How is the piano roll? Is there a special "drum editor" mode?ThomasHelzle wrote:YesIgro wrote:I mean can I use bitwig's LFO plugin to modulate the Sylenth's cutoff, for instance?Smooth and clean.
I can't test Sylenth since I don't have it, but in other VSTs it works beautifully so I see no reason why it shouldn't work in Sylenth.

Tom

Wow, that's great! I'm sometimes missing additional LFOs in some of my synths. Really looking forward to it, as Presonus Studio One cannot do this.ThomasHelzle wrote:YesIgro wrote:I mean can I use bitwig's LFO plugin to modulate the Sylenth's cutoff, for instance?Smooth and clean.

Not that i would want to troll this thread... but Reaper can do that too.
And it's indeed a great feature. I think the big versions of Cubase can do it too, at least those have a midi plugin called Auto LFO.

Yeah, it's not unique to Bitwig. Especially nodal hosts can do it very well, like Usine or Bidule or MuLab for instance.chk071 wrote:Not that i would want to troll this thread... but Reaper can do that too.And it's indeed a great feature. The interesting thing here is, that its inside a Live-like, Live optimized host and that it has a very intuitive GUI.
In Live you can use M4L to work with LFOs, but it's way more clumsy IMO.
For me it's not about Bitwig being better than other Hosts, but it having a feature set that appeals to me more than most others.
YMMV

Tom

A lot of Bitwig stuff was in Reaper first. Running plugs as a separate process, using the host to provide lfos for any instrument, audio/midi tracks, mutiple documents open. Maybe it's because I'm a former Reaper user, but Reaper always seemed like one of the main daws that Bitwig is an amalgamation of. Unfortunately Reaper is a pain to use in a lot of ways that Bitwig makes simpler.

Exactly. Reaper never inspired me, Bitwig does.Ogopogo wrote:A lot of Bitwig stuff was in Reaper first. Running plugs as a separate process, using the host to provide lfos for any instrument, audio/midi tracks. Unfortunately Reaper is a pain to use in a lot of ways that Bitwig makes simpler.
But everybody will have to find out what fits him or her best.
For me it's an improved Live, improved in areas that matter to me personally, I'm sure others who are perfectly happy with Live may find Bitwig lacking in some regards where Live is more mature or has more support from 3rd parties already.
But for my Soundscapish work it's a perfect fit, when some niggles are worked out over time (the midi routing mostly).
Cheers,
Tom

Check out the screenshots some pages ago. I like it, but YMMV.firepile wrote:How is the piano roll? Is there a special "drum editor" mode?
I don't think there is a drum mode, but you have multi-clip-editing and you can either edit individual clips or the whole timeline...

Not to stick my beak in, but how is modulating a filter cutoff much different from doing the same with automation shapes? Is it just that it's more flexible in general, the other methods?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Automation is great for editing things you want to happen at a certain time, but when you want to edit a LFO, I's a bit painful to maintain and nudge (especially in S1 where the shapes aren't procedural but create a ton of points).LawrenceF wrote:Not to stick my beak in, but how is modulating a filter cutoff much different from doing the same with automation shapes? The LFO in BW also has a restart button which reacts to incoming notes when active, so your LFO can start anew when a note comes in. It's still not as mighty as in-synth LFOs which often are per note, and the one in Bitwig can only be "monophonic" by the principle of VSTs and nodes, but for what it can do, it's brilliant.
You also can have it modulate as many parameters as you want at once (within a chain), each with it's own amount and either positive or negative direction, so that is also harder to do with automation.
And as in my audio example above, you can modulate the parameters of one modulator with another in realtime to create more complex waveforms.
For me it's different things.
Automation is more timebound and static while modulation is more part of the sound itself.
Cheers,
Tom
Edit: Ogopogo beat me to it - I'm too slow

Nice, ty.solidtrax wrote:The soundsource, since it is a track for the KVR-OSC competition is one synth, namely: Cableguys Curve2CM. But all the rest of it is Bitwig. Think of the awesome delays, compressors, reverb (ok, its not a valhallaroom, but it works and is cpu friendly) etc.
Furthermore it is a modular valhalla and you should really try it when its out.

Does anyone know if automation curves can be bezier/splines or something crazy like sine/triangle/square waveforms (stretching along start/end point with options per point?)
