Tunefish 3

Post

Well, I enjoyed doing previous OSC so eager to have another go, especially with the challenge using synth I'm not comfortable with. (Dunecm is easy)

So... downloaded Tunefish to give this a try. Hit problems straightaway.

Using Cubase Artist v6.5 - 32 bit version, windows 7, i7 computer.

had problems loading patches - the selector in cubase does not sync with the patch selector in tf - and clicking through the presets seems to randomly change parameters rather than selecting the specific preset chosen, so for instance the snare preset will sound different, possibly depending what patch was previously selected.
Tried using the patch manager - saving and loading sounds with this simply does not work. nor does renaming them. when I tried using cubase's inbuilt patch saving it saved a completely different patch than I had worked on.

I read previous on this forum and tried downloading the updated version.
Unfortunately this is even worse as all these problems still there, plus none of the parameter controls work.

So returned to original version and going to have another go, but if cannot find workarounds may have to give it up :(

Yes. I used the 64-bit DLL. If you need a copy of SAVIHost, you can download it for free from here: http://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm
Yep, I can confirm it's a total mess using SAVIHost :) I'm on it...

Same thing in Studio One V2 Pro 64bit, the presets are all messed up, if you could fix it it would be great as I not only like it, I love it! It has same fantastic presets that I like a lot and I already have a tune in mind with a riff to match the plucky sound that starts as default ;)

Been trying some more - managed to work up half decent hats and snare.
but having problems with any melodic patches. None sound right on my system.
checked and found the additive synth is playing 3/4 semitone below the note played. this goes for all patches that use it, and I can find no way to correct this. So everything sounds out of tune.
Not used additive synth before - am I missing something or this another bug?

Could be a bug, does this happen at 44.1 khz or another frequency?

EDIT: I just tried it, I get the described effect at 48khz. Not at 44.1khz.
Apparently that does not work right yet

Just to post an update regarding automation in Jeskola Buzz. I found all the parameters, and there's no problem automating them. They were several windows and tabs deep in the PolacVST wrapper's options.
So my previous posts about the issue are irrelevant.

Alright, I have now tried switching instruments in Renoise, SAVIHost and Reaper. All 3 seem to work fine now for me. I cannot manage to get the patches to mess up anymore no matter what I do. I pray it's the same for you guys ;)

So now what remains is the 44.1khz issue and the instrument manager which seems to not work right.

Thanks. Changing to 44.1khz fixed this. :)

Don't know if it's useful info to anyone but with Automap i can see all the controls. Maybe you guys can download it and map it to your midi controler see if it works.

Absolutely, it makes the track alive, just as LFO's make a sound alive.

You can of course automate anything, but if it's just a regular short variation like a tremolo effect for example, it's maybe easier to use the synth's LFO. DAW automation is maybe best for those long parameter changes that goes over one or many bars etc, or if you want to make a more intricate phrase patterns with just the filter (on a bass for example).

Typical use is the filter cutoff open before a new part and long and subtle changes to decay etc, but in my opinion you can never have too little automation and things like automating reverb plugins wetness (dry in busy parts, wet in quiet etc), pans, delays, volume. Just try to go nuts on a piece and compare.

Yes 32 bit (on XP 32). What do you use?

Maybe just use Tunefish's own preset selector and manager for now (in the Global section), and then see after you're done with the track how to best save your patches if they have to be in DAW format?

The same

I have no idea why it's not working on my setup. Will test some more. Even the actual linking of the CC to parameter seems hit and mis, sometimes it works and sometimes not.

OK, I'm about to throw in the towel for this one, it just won't work stable on my system. Here's what I have so far:

- switching presets now work, both the GUI and Reapers patch manager interact correctly (afaics).
- I got the parameter assignment working, including GUI redraw, but it's not reliable (see below).
- As soon as the GUI is closed and reopened, parameter assignments are no longer responding (neither GUI or sound wise).
- Also, when the GUI is closed (or even goes behind another window) the currently loaded sound is messed up, visually the graph for the oscillator has changed then.
- I'm pretty sure it's not my setup, as just about every other (free) synth I use works without problems in this regard on my system.

So far this is much to buggy for me to work with. I appreciate the developer doing his best to get these bugs ironed out asap. But for me to participate I'm already very much discouraged with this. Too bad as I really like the sound of it and already had an idea for a track :(

So maybe another version might surface today or tomorrow, and if so I'll test it to see if it's usable. But I'm not about to go beta-testing for a few weeks to be able to participate in this months contest.
