That would actually be something good to share Thomas, maybe some vocal tracks or whatever running through the stock reverbs. Good idea.fedexnman wrote:Just curious whats Bitwigs Reverb plugin like is it an IR type ? Mainly interested becuase of Linux version .

No, no IR in BWS ATM. It's a rather interesting Reverb, to me it sounds good as a factory device, YMMV:fedexnman wrote:Just curious whats Bitwigs Reverb plugin like is it an IR type ? Mainly interested becuase of Linux version .

It has a Room and a Hall mode and you can define the reverb-time separately for three frequency ranges.
The most special thing is, that you can put any effect into the "Tank" slot, so quite sophisticated things can be created from the basis tool.
Cheers,
Tom

Sorry, I'm simply the wrong guy for such requests. I'm sure there will be plenty of other people who will test it elaborately against other plugins when more people get the Beta (wasn't there a guy a while ago who said he would produce music with BWS right away if only he had the beta and then got it, but wasn't heard of since?) but I won't. Just not my thing.LawrenceF wrote:That would actually be something good to share Thomas, maybe some vocal tracks or whatever running through the stock reverbs. And most people don't care all that much cause they already have reverbs covered... the tank slot sounds interesting though!ThomasHelzle wrote:Sorry, I'm simply the wrong guy for such requests. Oh, i know Im just thinking Linux version here , there is a IR reverb LV2 , but BWS i think just does VSTs .

It is - and you can do reverbs up to 32 seconds...pdxindy wrote:And most people don't care all that much cause they already have reverbs covered... the tank slot sounds interesting though!

I haven't continued with my Linux testing since I got too frustrated with Jack the last time.fedexnman wrote:Oh, i know Im just thinking Linux version here , there is a IR reverb LV2 , but BWS i think just does VSTs .
But I downloaded some Loomer plugin demos for Linux and some other free ones, so as soon as I find out where to put them I'll go into that once again.
I also read that one can use Windows VSTs via Wine, but that sounds like another day to get running with my level of knowledge...

Yeah, I guess that's for the best.ThomasHelzle wrote:I really have no idea what's planned in that area in the long run.
ATM it's simply mails to support in which I describe my experiences, bugs and problems I find and things that I think could or should be improved.
I don't think (and hope) they go for feature bloat - hopefully they keep up their vision of what BWS should be rather than making it a democratic system trying to run in every direction at once and please everybody
That usually fails.

Tom

Confirmed as far as I understand it for version 1.0.TheoM wrote:Just a quick question, on page 73 it was said that it seemed bitwig had no crossfades or overlapping clips allowed. Has this been confirmed? Is just too big a topic to get through to find out. I read the full ten pages after that with no extra info on that matter, and then I decided to just ask here if that's ok.
While it's very easy to create fade-ins and fade-outs per Clip, you would need to duplicate a track and then interleave between the two for creating the crossfades.
Not ideal, but the complexity in a host that has both linear and non-linear audio and can have multiple audio parts inside of clips seems to be rather non-trivial to solve and visualize.
I think I personally would even be okay if only the audio parts inside of clips could be crossfaded for now, but in the long run I guess that's something that needs to be solved, since it's very important for many people.

Tom

How is the Sampler and Drum Racks in BWS ? Im interested in ease of use , i.e. round robin , random , velocity layering mainly for making acoustic drum kits out of samples ?

In the current Beta I'd say:fedexnman wrote:How is the Sampler and Drum Racks in BWS ? Im interested in ease of use , i.e. round robin , random , velocity layering mainly for making acoustic drum kits out of samples ?
Sampler:
- Ease of use: very easy and clear layout (see the screenshot some pages back).
- Round Robin: Not that I know off, but I may be wrong there.
- Random: Again: Not that I know off, you would need to implement that in the chain somehow.
- Velocity Layers: Yes, and very easy to use (no blending though AFAIK).
Will not replace Kontakt but for a factory device I think it's very good and superfast to use.
Drum Machine:
- I'm not much of a drum person but it feels very deep.
Each Pad has it's own chain, so you can either just drop a sample or one of the electronic drum synths on them or create the most complex structures you can think of including VSTs and whatnot.
But I'll leave the final verdict to somebody who's into drums
Cheers,
Tom

Yesterday I first played a while with the FM Synth "FM 4" and then decided to finally go through all (currently available) factory presets for all instruments to get a better feel for them.
Here my impressions:
Disclaimer: take this with a grain of salt please. It's only meant to give an idea of the general impression I got, no "verdict" or anything the like. And of course, the presets may still change a lot for all I know.
Organ:
Very nice sounding and simple to use, but possibly the most basic instrument included.
With some effects, modulation and layering you can get very good and interesting sounds but it's not the organ to end all organs
Nice Presets with things like Frequency-Split-Rotary effects etc. also show how one can work very flexibly with the available devices and combine them into very deep concepts.

I like the Distortion Effect a lot in BWS, it can sound very organic, and it works nice with the Organ.
FM 4:
Whoa, quite a deep Instrument there. Presets go from C64 like beeps to very interesting Wind-Instruments and a somehow fascinating Accordion to the hard and clear metallic sounds you expect from FM. Great Basses and synthetic sounds, not so many "realistic" sounding presets ATM.
The synth features 4 Operators + Noise, all of which can modulate each other in a 4x5 Matrix (you can't modulate the Noise itself). 4 Envelopes, 1 per-note-LFO etc.

For a factory device I would definitely say this is a highlight and fits the BWS paradigm (as I perceive it) very well.
BTW. As you can see above, the FX-Slot shows a little representation of the effects in that slot, so in this case there are 5 effects in that sub-chain. Very clever to get a fast overview if a slot is used or not and how heavy it may be...
Polysynth:
Now this clearly is the top dog in the instrument bundle. I'd say this synth can definitely play in the main league. Great sounding filters, two very flexible oscillators, up to 16x Unison per OSC, SubOSC per OSC, Sync per OSC, OSC FM...

The sounds have bite and cover a wide range. Especially some of the basses really go the whole way.
People will definitely have fun with this one.
The screenshot also shows the EQ-5 effect.
Then there are E-Hat, E-Snare, E-Kick, E-Tom, E-Clap, mainly thought to be used in the Drum Machine instrument.

Those are small Synths meant to do one thing only and do that well. I found the presets very nice and the Instruments easy to tweak, but I leave that one to somebody else who's more into Drums.
Overall you get a quite cool package IMO.
I would guess it's pretty hard to get the mixture right. On one hand it makes little sense to deliver Instruments as part of a DAW that try to make all synths out there obsolete and on the other hand you don't want them to be just a "filling" of the package that nobody will ever actually consider in a real production - that would be just silly (and sometimes is).
I personally think they hit the mark very well, especially for a 1.0
YMMV
Cheers,
Tom
