Well here's 4 things:
1. This stands on the shoulders of several band-limited compressors
2. This stands on the shoulders of ToneBoosters mb FlX4
3. IIRs recommends it (a fellow traveler for the perfect dynamic eq)
4. I have a fully functional 30-day demo (bless you FabFilter)

I am on day 1 of the demo and see no reason (after using it all day) not to make this my goto (other than I have 29 days left and won't have $200 US for at least 3 weeks).

If you set it to 1 band, is it Pro-C and more? Any reason to still want Pro-C if you have this aside from the different GUI?

How much latency in that new "middle mode". Can't remember the name.

Dynamic phase mode can be zero latency. Just click the "enable look-a-head" button and disable it.

It does NOT sound at all like Pro-C in single band mode. Should be easy enough to hear the differences. This one is much more "liquid" and less "chunky" compared to Pro-C. Or that's how I'd explain it.

Both are very different in their compression action and I'd say Pro-MB is more versatile so if you are in the market for a FabFilter compressor I'd recommend Pro-MB over Pro-C.. but then again it all comes down to taste.

I don't think it makes Pro-C obsolete. Pro-C has different compression characteristics (Clean/Classic/Opto), more flexible sidechain mixing and not to forget a more precise visualization of what's going on which I find quite useful. And in general it sounds different.

There is no latency in minimum and dynamic phase mode (10 samples when oversampled). Linear phase adds 3072 samples latency (5130 when oversampled). Enabling lookahead adds 20ms latency.

The percentages are there because Pro-MB is extremely program dependent. This means that it would be silly to write "100 ms attack" when in fact that attack time would vary all the time, between 5ms to 300ms depending on the incoming audio (it's transient and sustain portion and perhaps even frequency content).

I wish FabFilter had used percentages in Pro-L too because those numbers are ridiculous and mean nothing. I guess they learned from that.

Not only program dependent: time constants in Pro-MB also take account of the frequency band being processed, so will change if you adjust the crossover points

To be honest, millisecond time values are pretty meaningless in most compressors, there being no standard way to calculate them. This is even more true with Pro-MB.

Regarding Pro-C: this still has some tricks up it's sleeve that MB can't recreate, such as compressing mid and side simultaneously, or true parallel compression (the "Mix" knob in MB won't change the transfer shape of the compression in the same way as mixing dry and wet signals does in Pro-C)

True. And in Pro-C you can set it up so that the mid signal compresses the side and vice versa.. or so that left compresses right and right compresses left (which can sometimes be a really interesting effect).
